Yes I would. no doubt about it. Nobody is in a better postion to wager on sports than a bookie.

Also to the guy who said when you don't have even action you are gambling, that is not really the case you are booking or earning.

To the guy who said as soon as you get +110 on something you call it income, how about when the real price is +140 and you've got +110? You still call that income?

It should be all about getting the best of it period. The bm does not always have the best of it just because folks are laying him -110.

There are are several things you can do as a bettor that are stronger than booking imo.

Nobody is in a better postion to wager on sports is the one on the receiving call???? depends, it isn't science and we all know that.

not even action, booking or earning, I have to disagree - that is gambling.

And Stinky, I think you got a point on the real advantage on 140 or 110 or even 112 over 110. You can nail it any way you want, you do the numbers over the long term, you shorten the BM edge against you... I would consider that income.

Plenty of things you can do as a bettor that are stronger then booking, but in volume and clients, who really is on the losing side of that?

Talking from experience - give me a decent sheet of say 30 players that pay when they lose (even if some need time) and I wouldn't gamble a red cent...On the other hand if the sheet is full of stiffs I would get a job and forget the bookmaking.

Bottom line IMHO smart bookmakers do not need to gamble...but that is just my personal opinion based on 35 years around the game..That said - to each his own, I would never try to tell anyone how to run their business much less how to make use of their cash.

Make book, bet horses, gamble on sports, play cards, play slots, play the lottery etc. etc. - it's your cash, knock yourself out..

If the thread was titled "If You were a Bookie, SHOULD You Still Gamble" then that would be a different story

I used to work for an 'office' in Boston, and one of the bosses taught me, in the NBA, *always* fade a sub .500 team the following game after that sub .500 team wins a road game against a better than .500 team.

That theory proved to be about 61% correct.

So you are saying that if you were a pimp you would stick to masturbating since it's more profitable to have the hoes out walking the street?

Wrong Anology NES...

If I was a pimp then I would have my hoes already, that gives me everything I need... I wouldn't have to go to another pimps block, and use his hoes, because esstentially, I am getting everything I need from my hoes...

a hoe is a hoe... action is action...

Ok good point, so you would never get tired of banging the same hoes? Some days I bet you'd feel like heading over and knocking the bottom out of a couple of Huggy Bear's hoes for a change.

If you get tired of all those hoes, then you are an addict... in this case, a degenerate.... No amount of action will satisfy your need....

I would NOT want to play with a Bookie who gambles himself.. what if he digs HIMSELF into a hole.....

There might be some bean counters somewhere that dont play but I would think that by far and away the majority of bookies bet selectively.

What do you think brought them into the business to begin with?

Id buy the line low, say -2.5 from another book then sell high at -3 then 3.5 to my customers and so on if I was a crookie. I asked my bookie when we went to vegas why he doesn't gamble on sports and he said I have all the action in the world back east no point.

I mean if you had 300-400 customers betting the board against you, whats the point in making more bets? Unless your scalping or know of a fix no point to bet if your the book.

Majority of bookies do not have 300-400 customers. If they have a 100 they have a great book. Not saying some don't but, most don't.
