the worst part about this is that he was trying to bet on that horse at odds of 999-1, he probably knew that nobody would accept his offer, but he was putting it out there trying to catch someone making a "MISTAKE", looks like it turned around and bit him in the ass?

That is absolutely ridiculous.

I don't offer odds on exchanges and this is a good reason why.

These exchanges should have a bad line thing built into their system. If anyone offers a line of twice the normal line, it should stop them.

Sean

You obviously dont have a clue how betting exchanges and Betfair works, so I dont know why you posted here. The guy made a error twice.

Firstly he mistakenly hit "LAY " instead of " BET ", and then he mistakenly confirmed the wrong bet. You do get the chance to confirm your play on Betfair , so if he was paying attention he wouldnt have made the mistake in the first place. He was too busy trying to put a bullshit bid out there and he shot himself in the foot.

The same mistake can be made when trading stocks, and the person who mkaes the mistake gets stuck with the position. You cant cancel the trade because the bets are matched. Its the traders responsibility to check his trades and confirmation.

I think the main reason why you dont offer odds on exchanges is because you dont have the first clue how to.

Agree, something like a message saying "Are you sure you want to offer this ? ". Then if the guy does it anyway, so be it.

There is a confirmation of wager that is shown to the punter before he finalises the bet. So he does have the chance to cancel any erroneous play that he might have started. Below is an example of what he ( and every other punter ) sees before he gets to finalise his bet.

<TABLE id=placeBetsVerifyTable cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=3 width="100%" border=0><TBODY><TR class=MVHeaderBackBoldedHeader><TD colSpan=2>Back</TD><TD align=middle colSpan=2>Your

</TD><TD class=betOddsTD vAlign=top align=middle colSpan=3>30</TD><TD vAlign=top noWrap align=right>£10.00

</TD><TD vAlign=top align=right nowrap?>£290.00</TD></TR><TR class=BMBackBetInfoBackground><TD class=BMBackBetInfoBackground colSpan=6>You are backing 1. Freddy Rama. If you win, your stake of £10.00 is returned to you together with a profit of £290.00. If you lose you lose your stake

<TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=3 width="100%" border=0><TBODY><TR><TD id=BMPlaceBetsVerifyViewFooterLiability noWrap align=right width="100%" colSpan=3><TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 border=0><TBODY><TR><TD noWrap>Liability on these bets: </TD><TD class=CurryBoldedText id=BMPlaceBetsVerifyViewFooterLiabilityAmount noWrap>-£10.00</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE></TD></TR><TR><TD align=right colSpan=3>Place your bet(s) now?</TD></TR><TR><TD id=BMPlaceBetsVerifyViewFooterPercentBookBack style="VISIBILITY: visible" noWrap width="33%"> </TD><TD id=BMPlaceBetsVerifyViewFooterPercentBookLay style="VISIBILITY: visible" noWrap width="33%"> </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
NO YES

So everyone who said that they should have messages, or this is why they dont play with exchanges read the above and see this guy made two stupid mistakes, unfortunately his second mistake was extremely costly.
</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

Im ashamed to admit I have made the mistake many times myself, where I dont read the confirmation and quickly enter my password and hit submit... Usually its because I am worried about the line changing....

but when I do,

its my mistake.

I agree with you SS. Ive made the same error also in my haste to get my bet down. My beef was with the posters who are obviously clueless as to how betting exchanges work yet they felt compelled to post.

Secondly, the guy who lost is one of those guys that I despise who put in ridiculous bids/offers that have no chance of getting hit except by error. In my opinion, he got his right whack.

in a sportsbook, the mistake you make can only be as much as you risk, it can only be so bad.

:drink:

in an exchange of course, you have to be especially careful because you are offering odds, make a mistake (as this person did) and they will pounce on you...

Plus with a sportsbook you can at least try and ask to be let off if youve made an honest mistake.

Without wanting to sound like an asshole ( if thats possible ) he was being a jerkoff by putting in a 999/1 bid about the +185 favourite, so in my opinion he half deserved to cop a kick in the ass, just not a half million dollar one. But thems the breaks.
