Don Best has lowered their price from $600 to $499 for the Premium service and $129 to $99 for the Express service.

While this is great for current Don Best customers (I assume anybody that prepaid will be getting some credit), it is not really a good long-term solution to the problems they are facing.

DB is facing more and stiffer competition than ever before, and even after a 15% price cut, is still $200 more per month than SportsOptions. So if a customer chose SportsOptions over DB just for price, they are still saving at least $2400 per year.

And price is just one of many reasons that users chose SportsOptions over other services. In our last customer survey, some of the reasons our customers gave were:

  • Features
  • Speed
  • Injuries
  • Price
  • More information
  • Trust
From the outside, it looks like DB has got complacent. Two months ago they made a post where they admit that 'the quality of service suffered' and 'injury reporting was not as good as in years past'. They also said they were 'confident that for this football season and beyond, our injury reporting will be second to none'. But even after the post, nothing has changed. I guess I should give them some credit for effort - they have repeatedly tried to hire some of our team members, but haven't had any luck!

I don't know what the future holds for DB, but we are not changing our mission - to offer the best possible service at the lowest prices. I hope DB continues to follow suit, because as we have seen - competition is good for the consumer.

The future for DB reads like this. ALL DONE. You cant go back and live in the past. You can not go back and rehire prime past talent or even hire away current new talent because for the most part that talent does not believe in doing the shit DB is known for even though they were participants of it in the past. They also very certainly are not going to back to living or live under the thumb of the aold guard that gave them there start in the buisness or listen to them talk shit about the friends they used to work. Compounding this problem is the fact that many that made the wheels go round have been scattered due to the effects of the US Goverments actions against the offshores.

The TRUST factor however is the hardest to overcome for DB. There is no way for them to regain it or the customers they lost.

I will venture to say they are losing money and cutting the prices dont help the bottom line any.

Its just a matter of time.
