If you died tonight...what would happen to your offshore money??

Every Monday I e-mail my gambling related files to one of my investors. This is partly in case I have a disaster with my computer here - so I don't lose all that stuff. And it's partly because of this "in case I die" scenario.

If I did die and no one had this information, it would seem like I was leaving a big debt. This is because all my credit sources are close to being maxed (because I earn money at a higher rate than the interest so it doesn't make sense to leave the credit sitting there).

Anyway this investor - who is also my ex and is also a trusted friend - would probably struggle for a bit trying to remember all the stuff I had told her about how to retrieve the funds, but I'm sure she'd work it out.

It's a system I highly recommend whenever possible.

A few years back, I came across an account of a man who had passed away during the summer. I was attempting to reach him so he could reload his account for the football season. The wife kindly informed me that her husband had died and I wished her well and ended the call. Afterwards, I made a note on the account and left it at that. I assume the company took the funds. I never found out. The account was deleted from the system.

If the wife knew the passwords for withdrawing funds, it could have been done. If she was clueless, we would not have been able to help. I assume that most men are concerned about sharing their sportsbook information to their wife. She could tamper with the account. We did have many wives trying to access the accounts to find out how much was won, lost or even paid out. Most of the time, they were very angry and wanted revenge.

I guess it is a double-edged sword.

Bonus for books ! Moral of story is, if you have large balances, then plan for this event.

The chances aren't all that good with some sports books that a beneficiary would get your money unless you notify your sports books AHEAD of time regarding the unlikely event of your death...

Thanks Noreaga for bringing this back up for me to see...

Back when I was with a local was, that if a guy died and owed you you just forgot it. If we owed them we would contact the wife. Most of the time the wife wanted it given to a specific charity.

I have given 3 people close to me each a sealed envelop. One has the names of the sportbooks, one has the usernames, and the other has the passwords. I also left neteller instructions and info so they can easily get the money through the Neteller debit card.
