Going into this the line was:

Joe Biden -35.5

If you took Palin and the points ---YOU WON!

Final score

Biden 38
Palin 26

Biden had his predictable but steady running game going and Palin offered up no real defense against it save for a couple of jabs at Obamas voting record. Biden on several occasions could have lobbed into the endzone to wide open receivers but opted not to and stayed with a civil but consistent run game.

Palin surprised by performing 10x better than anyone predicted. She had a couple of TD's on a couple of busted plays that ended up with her putting up big points when the crowd didn't see it coming. Her diversion tactics aided her in booting a few long FG's, Biden's defense should have blocked a couple but the fierceness just was not there.

Officiating: the supposed Gwen "No chance for you tonight Sarah" Ifell was very lenient toward SP being that she answered the question asked 3 or 4 times, for the most part she just wove everything into the middle where she could pop-up her Soccermom-isms and down home gosh-gollys, darn it!
Eifel showed no bias whatsoever, if any toward the heavy underdog Palin. The moderator said out of the gate "Please answer the question and for the most part SP never did. Biden at least answered directly/semi-directly 75% of time and a few times would turn it inside to knock McCain or Bush admin.

Palin will be viewed as victor being everyone thought it would be 49 - 7, but if you break it down and consider issues and points made it was still Biden way ahead.

THis from a registered Independent fwiw.

I agree. Biden won but didn't cover. As far as a difference maker? Don't think Palin will narrow the gap significantly for the McCain ticket.

I don't think Palin helped herself by agreeing on the Obama/Biden ticket with the homsexual issues. She's gonna need to run right to her base to make this work. I think the independent's will lean Obama now.

But did you notice that she never said a concise YES to that y or n question? She instead kept saying she was pro-tolerance, so as to not piss-off her backers. She created a nice 'middle' for herself by answering q that way. In near future she will claim that she never said 'yes' to that question.

Dems gained nothing tonight but Reps could have gained back a few straying Reps just based on fact that she was not a complete joke as the majority figured she would be. Guarantee you that Reps will chalk this up as a victory, Dems cannot and will not even though they in no way lost the debate itself.

In the end she brought back her base. And in all honesty I believe in the remaining weeks thats all she'll have to lean on. That ain't enough.

You have to put this in the proper context. The complicit media and comedians have had a free hand painting her as a bimbo for the last three weeks. The 'conventional wisdom' about her being crafted was that she was a know-nothing, and that hurt in the polls.

By breaking even, "covering the spread" and perhaps even winning outright v. old n slow my head will explode Joe...she actually crushes it out of the park, relatively speaking. Even though I'm not much for polls, I'll be shocked if McCain doesn't pick up a few more points this week.

Rove just said Biden bold-faced lied 10 times and made six statements which could be argued. Not that anyone would expect the media to call him out on it though...or actually trust Biden to tell the truth.

What killed it was when Sarah made that statement about gay marriage. The crowd was just waiting for her to say something stupid and funny because that what she is good for and she delivered.

Ok...this was looking like a pretty objective thread. But for anyone to say she "knocked it outta the park" is absolutely asinine. How did she knock it out of the park?? Shit, she was shakey and trembling in the open. Matter of fact she didn't even settle down and get warm until midway through the debates.

What debate were you watching?? Don't even get me started on dodging 1/3 of her questions.

I think some of her conservative base groaned with her answer to same sex rights.

Sarah Palin looked presidential. Joe Biden looked tired.

Watch for a whole new, severe strain of Palin Derangement Syndrome to begin tonight. They hated her before tonight. They are going to pour on more unfathomable hate at a level we have never seen before.

totally agree. She did not knock shit out the park! She sucks!

Demonstrated no kind of independant leadership skills.

I don't even think she "covered the spread". If she did, it is because Biden refused to be mean and "run up the points" everytime she left herself open to get dunked.

Honestly, if you think she is qualified for VP of the US you are really either:

- smoking some shit and have your head up your a _ _, or
- really convincing yourself she is qualified

PALIN: Your question to him was whether he supported gay marriage
and my answer is the same as his and it is that I do not.

And then the crowd just erupted into uncontrollable laughter. That was the defining moment to me. Nothing else mattered after that. It proved no one takes her serious at all.

It is absolutely not what Biden was saying, which is what makes it so comical.

Palin beating Biden is like some shit team playing a Top Ten team "tough".

At the end of the day, you know the shit team ain't going to make a bowl game and the Top 10 team will ... but that was their Super Bowl.

This was Youngstown State playing Ohio State ... Ohio State wins, but Youngstown takes pride in not losing 45-0.
