Every time I had a big day during the baseball season (which were few and far between) I always put 20 or 30 bucks on a future hockey bet. I have about $200 on the Bruins win the cup at 40-1 and about 400 on the Blackhawks to win the cup at odds of 22-1.

I love the leafs and would love nothing more than for them to make the playoffs, but i still think ottawa and philadelphia are much superior teams. things will work themselves out as the season goes along.

new york and montreal are still the teams to beat in the east imo.

I have four futures I'm very proud of for value. Boston at 50/1 for $100, Chicago at 40/1 for $100, and Buffalo at 40/1 for $100. But I truly think the best of all is Washington at 35/1 I just got a week ago today at Bookmaker.

One future I took that I'm not so proud of is Dallas at 25/1 for $350.

..and the L.A. Kings at 250/1! Why not? It's not out of the realm of possibilities that they could make the top eight in the west.

I get what you guys are thinking with all these value plays, but in all honestly I can't see Boston, Buffalo, LA, Washington etc. winning the cup. Of coarse it could happen like the Canes a few years ago, but in the end it should come down to teams like NYR, MON, PIT, DET, SJ, ANA and maybe even DAL. I would say those are still the top teams in the NHL.

It would be amazing to hit one of those though. Only "value" play I took a shot with was minnesota and ottawa. Ottawa should easily be a playoff team, but I can't see them doing anything once they get there, and Minnesota could contend in the east, but i can't see them getting past detroit or san jose in a series. regret both plays to be honest.

Nice bets Vic. Boston and Washington are both loaded with value and both have a great shot to win the CUP. In fact, i would go as far as saying that I expect one of those two teams to represent the East. Montreal and the Rangers are both way overrated.

Good luck VV, i think I'll buy some Washington right now, as I definitely overlooked them and I'm shocked at the price.

Sharks at +1525 is looking exceptionally strong.

I also like the Habs at 16 or 15 to one.

Montreal and the Rangers are both way overrated.

While I do agree with you on the Rangers I'm still bullish on the Habs. Despite last night's performance they have a very deep team in my eyes. Their tape to tape passing reminds me of the Montreal teams of yesteryear. Tremendous speed, solid goaltending, physicality. They have all the components to win a cup.

I get what you guys are thinking with all these value plays, but in all honestly I can't see Boston, Buffalo, LA, Washington etc. winning the cup. Of coarse it could happen like the Canes a few years ago, but in the end it should come down to teams like NYR, MON, PIT, DET, SJ, ANA and maybe even DAL. I would say those are still the top teams in the NHL.

It would be amazing to hit one of those though. Only "value" play I took a shot with was minnesota and ottawa. Ottawa should easily be a playoff team, but I can't see them doing anything once they get there, and Minnesota could contend in the east, but i can't see them getting past detroit or san jose in a series. regret both plays to be honest.

I can't speak for everyone but when I make future investments on any team above 30/1 all I'm looking for is a team to make the postseason. I'll buy back on their opponents through series,(or adjusted series), prices and eventualy lock in some sort of profit.

If I'm fortunate to have several tickets on teams at generous prices to make the playoffs then the hedging process becomes more affordable and profitable. For instance last year I had Washington at 200/1 and Philadelphia at 100/1. They met in the first round and I didn't need to invest one more cent until the eastern semi-finals.
