Would he be leading the league in home runs or suspended for substance abuse?

How many homers would The BABE hit these days?

Would the Babe be hitting, or pitching? I find it incredible that he still holds the AL record for shutouts in a season. Best player ever.

I have mixed feelings on the "Babe"...I mean i believe it was stated that he was the reason they outlawed cork bats..because all of his were corked. Also back then there was no bullpen...so the starter was usually pretty tired by the end of the game..how many more would be hit today if there were no BP's? Obviously he was awesome..but i haven't read enough to make a decision..just some things that i've heard. I'll take someone that works out and is on the Roids (Bonds) then some fat guy that ate hotdogs and drank beer during games...no contest. If Bonds played with his talent level now..back in those days..he would have hit 100 homers probably.

I kind of tend to agree that if the babe were around today he would be not so special, and furthermore if Barry Bonds were around in 1933 he would be hitting Triple-digit homers.

Its not to say anything bad about the players from either generation, just that sports medicine and training and such, coupled with the fact that we are importing talent from all over the world gives todays players a huge advantage in this hypothetical matchup.

I dunno Journey, that Bucs '79 defense was one of the all time best also!......

As for the "Babe" thing, I just will never be convinced that yester~year's athlete's can compete with todays. I suppose, if in any sport, they could, it would be baseball though.

Seriously it is hard to compare eras so different. Looking at pure stats:

Babe 2503 Games 8399 ABs 2174 Runs 2873 hits 506 2b 136 3b 714 Hrs 2217 rbis 2056 walks 1330 Ks 123 Stolen Bs. 342 Ave. 690 Slug ave.

Barry 2552 games 8679 abs 1925 runs 2579 hits 532 2bs 74 3bs 653 Hrs 1734 RBIs 2953 walks 1381 Ks 500 stolen bs. 297 Ave. 601 Slugging ave.

You decide. wil.

He has them ranked considerably better too, this may be the best D of all time..That Bucs team had no O at all! They lucked into that championship game vs The Rams...9-0 I think it was...That team would not touch last years team....As for Barry he is the best offensive player ever! He is locked and loaded everytime up...its remarkable...If Barry played then he`d hit 137 homeruns (from the Journey Grinder)

136 Triples because a shitty outfielder from today could probably throw out the babe at third regularly.

Did you ever see the movie Cobb with Tommy Lee Jones playing Cobb? When the sportswriter who is writing an article about his life asks him "What he thought about Babe Ruth" Cobb replied "He ran pretty good for a fatman". The movie was based on a real life experience by the writer and Cobb.

Journey, '79 team isn't "better", but look back at that #1 defense that year, it was awesome, led by Lee Roy Selmon! Also, Dough Williams went down in that game, and I believe they would of won if not for that. They had a pretty good offense, With Doug Williams, Ricky Bell, Jimmie Giles at Tight End, Kevin House. /...................Wil, your comparing one players' stats versus another players stats, I'm talking about Players vs. Players~Era~wise. They get better and better, as bad as some want to admit. I am very competitive, and I know that one day, when I am older, I will argue that my "era" could still play with that era of that new time~frame, but in all honesty, I know they couldn't.

Wil- I have seen it, I liked that one...Cobb must have been the meanest MFer to ever play! Wasn`t Cobb possiby involved in a Murder ? For some reason I vaguely remember that?

Hache , but still they are not as good as last years team! Madden has the rankings all ass backwards! Many teams are ranked way wrong!

The only thing today's players are is bigger. No way they are smarter, no way they are more motivated, and no way Babe Ruth would not be a major star today. You probably will never agree, and that is fine with me. I obviously never seen him play, but my father and uncles all did. To their generation he was more than an athelete. Ruth was bigger than any movie star, musician, or politician. He put baseball on the map after the 1919 World Series almost buried it. Just the fact that we are talking about a guy dead more than 50 years should give you a clue.

I havent read the ranking too much J~man, I only got the game about 2 weeks ago. I layed off of Madden for 2~3 years, just now getting back into it. As you might remember, my gambling days began when I was much younger, with my buddy and I playing sometimes all night long for our best sports cards on sega genesis Madden. I still like '92 & 93 games from back then. The graphics are, of course 100 times better now, but the gameplay in those games was great!

The game play is much better now! Much more realistic! Just give it time you`ll see...Madden himself said it was too easy to score back then , trust me on this one..its by far more realistic...I believe even back then the team that lead would always have things go wrong, its like the game was built to let the trailing team back in the game! You can t just pass at will either...I am ranked 4th in the world! Somehow I fell to 4th , lol... Seriously its the best game ever invented!

Wil, sorry, I have to disagree. As someone who has always, and still does, play several different sports, mainly basketball and football, trust me, they are getting bigger and faster, not just bigger. It's hard to determine the knowledge factor you brought up, and I might slightly agree with you that yesteryear's was a bit smarter, but thats only because they depended on "thinking" more back then than just "reacting". But, here's an example of today's players getting bigger, stronger, and faster. I'm only 5'9, and I used to dunk any ball I could grasp in my hands. Put simply, I was the fastest and highest~jumping white guy anyone around here had seen.(Ive met one other) I grew up playing in the "section", and even black guys used to say they "never seen a white guy move like that". Anyhow......my point is, I'm still quick and have some of my vertical left, but..... playing basketball at various places now, a lot of the time are with much younger guys, and even kids in high school and just out of. A lot more of these guys today are similar to how I was, when it was rare for a white guy to be so quick and jump so high.Even though I can still run with them, They are running just as fast and jumping as high as I used to years ago, when it was uncommon. It's hard for many to understand by just "watching" players from different eras, but anyone that knows from "experience", will tell you exactly as I just did.

IF Babe Ruth took steroids like Barry he would have hit 1200 homers.
