The reason why Japan/China produce many good MLB/NBA stars is because of the globalization of the MLB/NBA, especially when teams toured those countries and promoted the sport.

Do you think that every single European country is absolutely shit at baseball for some genetical reason? NO! It is because hardly anyone in Europe gives a fuck about baseball because it is barely promoted/shown on TV. Put a 'World Series' or 2 in the UK, and within 5-10 years time you'll see an influx of British baseball players.

Without globalization of a sport, the talent pool is extremely limited to only those that watch/play the sport. The next Babe Ruth may have already come and gone, but never have actually picked up a baseball bat in his life because he lived in Europe where most people couldn't even tell you 1/4 of the rules.

I agree with you to a certain degree: Countries like f.e. Germany or Great Britain suck at baseball because the game is played by just a handful of people. Otherwise they would at least play at a higher level, probably not the top level for several years, but they would improve. But Japan has been a baseball country for a long time and that wasn't because of MLB or some sort of promotion.
And even in Europe you have countries like the Netherlands, where soccer is clearly the #1 sport, but baseball and softball are very popular too without MLB really promoting the sport agressively over there.

But I agree pretty much with betallsports when it comes to NFL and Europe: You have a fan basis over here (especially in Germany, where most of the NFL Europe teams were based in the end, and seemingly also a large group of fans in the UK), who really love and understand the game and you probably would have no problem at all to sell out a superbowl.
But if you take these fans aside, the rest of the country doesn't care for Football or even Baseball at all. It's just another sport, which gets ignored by the majority.
And I completely understand if American fans want "their" league to host the final game in the US because of several reasons (revenue, tv schedule or just because the major American sports finals should also be played in the US).

  1. You're an idiot
  2. The Tour commonly visits other countries. In the past its gone through both Belgium and Spain. In 2007 it actually started in London. The prologue time trial was in London and the first stage left London and went south towards France. I believe there was another stage in England in 2008 but I cant recall for certain
  3. So, in conclusion, you're an idiot

What year were you there to watch the Tour?

2007?

And if the Road Warrior says it, it must be true..

NFL considers second London game

CHARLOTTE, North Carolina (AP) -- After seeing fans jam Wembley Stadium to watch the NFL for the past two years, the league is considering adding a second regular-season game overseas for the 2010 season.
League commissioner Roger Goodell said on Tuesday the second game could also be played in London or another venue in the United Kingdom. The issue will be discussed at next week's league meetings, and could be included in a larger plan to add up to two regular-season games to the NFL schedule.
"The fan reaction we've had in London has been extraordinary. We would like to feed that passion," Goodell said after speaking at the Charlotte Touchdown Club. "We have a great fan base in the UK. There have been discussions of taking the second game and playing it in another market in the UK. That's something that we'll evaluate."
The NFL first staged a regular-season game in London in 2007, when the New York Giants beat the Miami Dolphins 13-10. Last year, the New Orleans Saints beat the San Diego Chargers 37-32.
Both games were sellouts, and fans quickly gobbled up tickets for this season's game between the New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Oct. 25.
While Goodell reiterated there are no plans to move the Super Bowl to London, he said a second regular-season game was drawing support from league owners.
"I think the teams have had a great experience that have gone over," Goodell said. "We've been able to build on that and I think teams recognize it's an honor and a privilege to go over and play there. And it can be done without impacting the team negatively."
However, some players have been critical of the overseas game because of the extensive travel involved in the middle of the season. One team also loses a home game in the arrangement, a potential competitive disadvantage.
Saints coach Sean Payton was critical of the "sloppy" field conditions at Wembley Stadium and the logistics involved in playing a "home" game in London.
The league did give the Saints and Chargers byes the week after the game. The Patriots and Buccaneers will also have a week off after this year's London game, which counts as a home game for Tampa Bay.
NFL Players Association chief DeMaurice Smith could not immediately be reached for comment on the prospects of a second game overseas.
"The negative is taking the home game away from the fans," Goodell said. "It's another reason why potentially restructuring the season and changing two preseason (games) into regular-season (games) can be something that we find is beneficial to the fans."

I would be Pissed! This is an American Game. Its geared for American players, who are bigger, faster, and stronger than the world. (Not a hater, just stating facts) Also most of the world hates the NFL because they cannot play it. Anyone can play soccer but not anyone can cover Larry Fitzgerald. This is and American Game and our Greatest American PRIDE! Keep it in America Period! No excuses!
