The Chicago Bulls might be pulling out of the race for Carmelo Anthony.

Yahoo! Sports/FOX Sports 1 NBA Insider Adrian Wojnarowski reports the Bulls are working toward completing a deal with free-agent center Paul Gasol.

Anthony reportedly has narrowed down his choices to the New York Knicks and the Bulls, but a potential deal with Gasol would most likely use up Chicago's salary-cap space.

Gasol has spent the past six-plus seasons with the Lakers, helping them win two championships. But Gasol had to endure one of the worst seasons in Lakers history, as injuries decimated the team, which finished 27-55. Wojnarowski reports that Gasol turned down a two-year deal worth more than $20 million from the Lakers.

Gasol would form a formidable frontline with center Joakim Noah, who was named Defensive Player of the Year in April. Both are willing passers, strong rebounders and versatile offensive threats

I think the Bulls win it all next year. Gasol was the missing piece, and if Rose is half as good as he used to be this team should be the favorite IMO. Look at what they've done the last 2 years with zero offense and Rose out... The team will play lockdown defense and can now score with Gasol and Rose. I'm hammering Chicago futures.

Also is anyone surprised that Carmelo took the money instead of trying to win a ring? Dude just doesn't care. He wants to put up 30 shots a game and that's about it.

Not a Bulls fan, just think they'll be good next year.

And I'm not faulting Carmelo for taking the money. Some guys would take less to win. He's not one of those guys. He just wants to shoot the ball a bunch and rest on defense. Just not a team guy... I'm just saying I'm not at all surprised a guy that has shown no interest in anything other than scoring would take the cash.

Pats, he was quoted as saying he would take less, winning a championship is what he wanted to do...Not saying he would win a championship in Chicago, but he sure as hell had a better chance there than in NY....So in the end it was about the money!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wanted to see Melo go there too because he would've been a nice fit. They got the guys around him to hide some of his deficiencies and they badly need scoring/shot creating but 26mill a year and playing in NYC tough to passup. Also the fact Rose has had knee issues might've played a role, not like he is a lock to be an elite player going forward right now.

The Bulls could only offer 4/75, that is a full 50 million less. "Some guys would take less to win" probably turns into "Nobody would take 50mill less" pretty fast. We aren't talking like 10% less here, we're talking a legit 40% less in guaranteed $ in a less desirable location to live (sorry Chicagoans), think about that....

Pats Totally agree with you on the above, i figured he was not coming either, but i think deep down he really wanted the most and cannot blame him.
