John FVVCKING Kerry wants to raise the minimum wage to $7.00 per hour! A record increase of $1.85 is what he is calling for!!

Although, most experts dont think that he would actually increase it by that much, it would actually be bad for most of the nation!

First of all, I assume that almost NO ONE at this site makes the current minimum wage, well except for Crazy Ivan at Office Max!!:toothless So why would anyone here want to increase the minimum wage??????????????????????

I mean we wont get paid anymore!!! If you currently make $30-50 an hour, you will still get $30-50 an hour! If you currently make $8 an hour, then you will STILL make $8.00 an hour in most cases. Thus, the actual wage increase devalues our money!

It is said that 90% of the people actually making the current minimum wage are under the age of 19 years old! Of course 85% of those workers live at home WITH NO RENT OR UTILITY bills!! So you cant say that these workers need the extra cash to line on!

SO everyone is excited about the minimum wage increase. One real ******* democratic voter who would vote for Jim Feist for President if he was running, told me that is why she was voting for Kerry. But then again, SHE ALWAYS votes democratic!

Of course, then I asked her if she got paid minimum wage and she said "OF COURSE NOT!!!" She was actually offended that I even asked her that question! Well I knew that she made around $15 an hour! Well I informed her that she would not MAKE anymore money with the increase!! SHe was of course to hear this and said that she will now REFUSE to vote at all!! So chalk another one for my man BUSH!!!!

Having said all of this, I think that Bush will lose this time. ALot of new voters were registered. And alot of the uneducated voters will of course vote for Kerry. Not too many uneducated voters will vote for Bush as his presidentcy has not been great for lower class people!

So a minimum wage increase affects you????

Come on, not even I believe that you make that amount of money. I will even give you credit for at least $10 an hour!! ALthough, usually, you sound like you are 16-18 years old yourself!! Are you even registered yourself???

So then minimum wage is $5.15/hour. I doubt anybody works for that. I'm sure I couldn't hire a 14-year old girl to babysit for that money. I believe the real minimum wage is already about $8/hr, except perhaps in the very poorest and most economically depressed portions of the country. Supply and demand should suffice to determine a minimum wage. Even a teenager won't work that cheap. No bills... no job needed.

EXACTLY!!! But if you make lets say $9.00 an hour, then you STILL make $9.00 an hour, and your wage is now devalued!!

So the minimum wage will actually HURT the rest of us. Stores like McDonalds or your local grocery store will have to raise prices in order to pay their workers!! SO it will now cost me more money to buy food and groceries!!

ALMOST no one is affected positively by such an increase, BUT WE ALL pay for the increase!!!!

Prices, and wages will rise regardless.

IT IS CALLED INFLATION.

Sorry, I know you Bush supporters don't like big words.

Do you reside in the U.S.A.? That couldn't be further from the truth.

Bismarck; Yes, USA ( New England) $8-10 hour is real minimum here. A lot of $8-9 hr jobs, few $15 hr jobs for unskilled. If you and your wife made $8 hr each, worked 40 hours, had no kids, you'd make 33k a year. You wouldn't even own a car.

Baseball: No Prices won't rise because the employers won't be facing increased labor costs, they already pay more than $7 hour. The guy making $8 hour is the guy that got his wage devalued to a greater degree.

Well only for those making less than $7 hour, I don't think that is very many.

I think the effect would be minimal.

Now if somebody says raise minimum wage to $18/ hour, so nobody is poor anymore. They are an idiot, because that will cause horrific inflation, job losses, etc. That's ridiculous , but $7 / hr is poverty level, $5.15 is a joke. An illegal alien Mexican ( or other) with no English wouldn't work for $5.15/ hr.

Good question, Earl. You're hallucinating if you think either Kerry or Bush will support that right. However, you may be surprised to hear that there IS a candidate that WILL ... Michael Badnarik, Libertarian Party Presidential candidate http://www.lp.org/.

Much of Kerry's economic "plans" seem to contradict each other.

I don't understand why we're going to raise minimum wage to reward those who haven't felt the need to educate themselves and be succesful.

On top of that I don't understand why we're also going to import our RX drugs from Canada (thus eliminating jobs in this country which require EDUCATION)

He talks about eliminating loopholes which allow corporations to move jobs overseas and get tax breaks (minimum wage jobs overseas = lower priced products = more money in our pocket... A philosophy which seems ot have eluded Kerry)

Now I'm not saying that we should ship all our jobs overseas...but there is a benefit to our economy when certain jobs are done elsewhere enabling us to save more money on products.

Furthermore... he may insist that those in the middle class will be taxed less but his ideas of a marriage tax and a gas tax will certainly effect that middle class.

Badnarik has got my vote on Tuesday.

I do everything I can to make more people aware of the other canidates and not just the two that have 50 million dollars to spend on advertising.

Is minimum wage standard across the country?

I can't see how the minimum wage can be the same, say in Houston (where the cost of living is dirt cheap) compared to the northern states .

interesting question Journey,

I can't remember specifics but I know it could vary state to state, while Bush was the governor of Texas, they had the lowest minimum wage it was around 4 dollars, couple that with his efforts to get rid of overtime pay.. who is Bush really helping in this country?

Kerrys minimum wage hike is over the course of 3 years, not all at once

She might have fooled me, but she didn't fool my m

OMG, how disappointing to read this thread, It really goes to show how un informed and educated alot of people are.
'WAKE UP AMERICA, everyone is not as priviledged as you guys, $10 an hour is like hitting the lottery for a lot of americans, and when I say alot I mean millions,

you are soooo buried in your own life and life style that you dont recognize the poor, you only know of YOUR way of life, if its all taken away from you tn maybe you'll unerstand,

I'm talking about people who have to scrape funds just to go to he corner store and buy a simple necessity, people who scrape through the week and only splurge on a good meal on payday, people who go for a job interview and dont have the fare to GET BACK HOME after the intervie, some even BORROW the money for bus and train fare for the first week, I've seen it with my own eyes man, its sad, really, really, sad,

and the damn statement about education is one thing, but there are people who are genuinely interested in highering their education but cannot get it.

there are people who are really really suffering in the USA and need assistance and cannot get it, for one reason or the other,

and there are millions suffering in the various comunities

but explain to me, why the USA have sooooo much wrong in THEIR OWN country and find it OK to travel a million miles away and spend billions on another country, but cant find a way to rev or revive its own economy or people.
