...what are my options? They told me they will come check out my lack of connection on saturday which will be the two-week aniversary of the last time I had internet in my house and yes I will be charged the full month. I plan on sending them packing with modem in hand, is this a bad idea?

your only other option is ICE ADSL, you will need a landline to start with and if you dont have it........this might take TIME............once you have the landline and IF you are within 5 kms of the telephone switch (not positive about the distance) then you MAY get ADSL ........IF they have ADSL ports available

In my case, amnet is totally solid and ICE ADSL shaky at best, but this changes with the location

one thing is that ICE rates are lower than AMNET/Cable tica /etc

so the thing is, do you have a land line.......and do you feel lucky.........punk! :laugh:

Wolfie is right...3 months to get a phone line then they ran out of ports.Took me 2 more years to get a port from ice. However im very happy with the connection works great.

i been dealing with bullshit with racsa and cable tica for the past 2 months. cable tica blames racsa and racsa blames cable tica for all the problems. dont have a land line so there's not much i can do but wait. good thing theres alcohol to get through the tough times.

NES ADSL is horrible. I got it installed and i'm so glad I didn't cancel AmNET because I woulda had a fit. I had ICE Acelera (ADSL ) for all of 2 weeks. Of that it worked for 24 hours. First day it died, I called their support... Mid way through the call it dropped. I call back and after 20 mins on hold the bitch that answers the support line tells me i'm sorry I can't connect you with a tech person because it's 10:00.. it was actually 9:58 by the time I got through. I explained that I had been speaking to someone and I wanted to get through to them again. She said she can't transfer me since it's 10:00 (yea I got that part already) so I tell her that it's pathetic she wouldn't even ask a supervisor and that I was extremely disappointed with the service the very first day I had it, she told me I should have called earlier.... well I believe I explained to her that I DID call earlier.

Anyway finally a day later I called again, some tech guy helped me but couldn't figure it out so he put in a report. The following monday (a week after the install date and only having about 4 hours of service) the guy comes. Takes him 3 hours and after changing the configuration and swapping 2 modems he leaves it working but configured differently (I wanted a static IP and he could only get it to work dynamically)... He left and the very next day the service went out again. The following Monday I packed up everything and took it back and demanded nothing be charged.

I was thinking about doing the same thing. Racsa ARE a bunch of f sticks and I have had nothing but problems with the service. We were also looking at ICE and now I'm worried.

Cable Tica's customer service has always been horrible (although it has gotten better in the last year or so)... Amnet is light years better, but most people only have the option of one or the other :(

someone figured out the password they use for a BUNCH of adsl modems.........and of course logged in remotely.......and changed the configuration and created all sorts of havoc

the other good thing of ADSL (on top of the speed and of course assuming that it works) its that because of the technology used by ICE for the ADSL they give you a static and public IP always, which is useful for some things

My adsl service from ice works amazing. It never goes down and is fast as hell..No complaints here. I would highly recommend it if you can get a port.

by now its clear that ADSL experience is very varied, one thing I would recommend is to get your OWN modem.......so that you can configure it the way you want it (or call me to configure out for $$$$$ :laugh: )
many times the problem is the ADSL modem, they have some crappy ones that lose the configuration ALL THE TIME.....I recommend zyxel.......they make solid equipment.

Well I agree some people will have varied experiences. Mainly depends how far you are away from the data center that provides the ADSL service in your area.

The ADSL service I signed up for was the highest speed they offer at 4mb. I did a speed test to compare AmNET and ICE while the guy was here. I signed up for Acelera since they told me it was a dedicated 4mb and I would consistently get that. So when I checked the speed and my results were inconsistent from 2.8mb to 3.7mb (never ever ever hit 4mb) I checked AmNET which was CONSISTENTLY at 2mb (which is the speed I pay for). Ofcourse I wasn't going to complain if I could get another 1mb for an extra $20 but forget it with all those stupid problems.

They gave me a good modem. It was a D-Link modem / router but it was their lack of technical experience and obviously a quirky system.

The problem was really messed up. The high level tech guys from ICE could see the modem and we could see the modem from within my network but I couldn't surf the net. I still think it was a port issue and they were too lazy to change it. However that cost them my business.

Also average support line wait is 20-30 min, so be prepared and whatever you do don't call from your cell phone (lesson learned). It really does seem like AmNET really has their shit together and never takes 20-30 min to get through. Usually 2-5 min wait tops.
