Can someone tell me why not all team owners dish out money to the big names?

because the Yankees will just outspend them. Yanks have the biggest market and apparently we all want to see them on TV (at least fox, espn, etc seem to think so).
they have their own network. they can afford to spend spend spend.

smaller market teams that dont bring in as much cant do the same.

Would you really wanna bet on a game where the opposing or the pitcher you have money on may be going to that team anywayS?

Just like how miami heat got every top prospect. Shit makes me sick. But fuck it, if thats how they wanna play, i say Yanks go and cheese it even more, get cliff and then we get championships 28, 29, 30

Not even remotely close in comparison. NYY (and MLB) do NOT have a salary cap. Just some weak ass "luxury tax." The Miami Heat (and NBA) do have a salary cap.

I'm thrilled everyone hates the Heat now. Just like how everyone hates the Lakers or the NYY!

Don't hate the player, hate the game.

sickening. no other team will even have a shot to beat the Yankees in the playoffs, let alone World Series. shit is terrible..its over for every team. I guess they arent happy being 20-25 games over .500 at the midway mark and having possibly four 20 game winners. No they need their whole rotation to win 20 games and step on every ones throats and take out all the competition in MLB.

sad week in sports between Lebron and now this. the competition in pro sports is slowly but surely withering away.

competition in pro sports is dying, withering away. I guess the Yankees arent happy coming off a championship 20 games over .500 at the midway mark with possible four 20 game winners in their rotation. No they need 5 and have to step on every ones throats and take away what makes sports great, competition and knowing on any given day either team can win.

fans of every team wish their owners would invest money back into their team like the yankees do. Face it the yankees have a long legacy, fans show up to the games and buy their shit so they can continue to put a good team on the field. Then you have owners like the royals who pocket profits and their share of luxury tax payments instead of investing them back into the team. also props to the yankees for having a stacked farm system, they are loaded at catcher in every minor league level and cervalli has shown he can produce in the bigs. Im not even a big fan of montero, he has been slumping this yr in minors and benched a few times for lack of hustle

So let me get this straight just because the yankees are however many games over ..500 they shouldnt want to improve their team? They are giving up a catching prospect who will never play for them, a second base prospect who will never play for them and a pitching propsect who will never pitch for them for one of the best pitchers in baseball that is only owed 4 million by the way the rest of the year and if they dont resign him they get type A status 2 first round picks. Has nothing to do with having the most money its 4 million boys, has to do with the yankees not letting a team like the rays swoop in and get him and have the best shot at beating them. It's called smart business. So all the haters can cry me a river but the Yanks are making a move to win and in case you guys missed it you still have to win it on the field. It's baseball. They arent guaranteed to win anything. Kudos to the yanks for having the minor league system to make this kind of deal because people do their jobs and draft good talent. Any team that is in this (mets, phils, etc) obviously dont have the minor league talent to get this deal done. So guys like Memphis Monroe and NYMets609 go the restroom and get your tissues because until baseball completely shuts it down and gets it right this is gonna be common for all big market teams. If you dont like it then dont watch it. Life is about choices.

sorry. didnt mean to come off as i was upset because that totally wasnt the case. i agree with u that mlb isnt fair its just annoying that if any other team would get him nobody would say a word. im a yankee fan but also a big pirate fan as well (live 30 minutes from the stadium and unfortunately a season ticket holder) so i see mlb from both sides. the pirates problem is ownership btw. anyway just wanted to make sure u knew i wasnt angry. bol to you as well be seeing the yankees deep in october and hopefully they make u some money

Yanks not gonna get LEE.

"Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that the "Mariners are backing off" the Yankees' offer for Cliff Lee and that it doesn't look like the "Yankees are in it."

Shocking if true, since it seemed like a done deal all afternoon. The Mariners were believed to be receiving Jesus Montero, David Adams and Zach McAllister for Lee. Sherman says the Mariners were concerned about Adams' ankle and that another team has stepped up with a big offer. Jul. 9 - 3:46 pm et"

Sherman I trust, one of the few Post reporters that is good.
