The way I understand the playoff rules, all the Astros have to do is win their last 2 games and they are the wild card winner regardless of what Giants or Dodgers do ! Why ? Because if Giants lose even 1 of the next 2 or 3 games they are out. If Giants sweep, then Dodgers are out as they would trail Astros by 1/2 game as the one game playoff to decide the Division championship counts toward your overall record. This doesn't sound fair to me but that's the way it is. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that is the rule.

That is just another one of those stuped rules that doesn't make sense but they will probably never change it until someone get hurt. Go Giants and Astros ! Probably should bet a 2 team parlay on Rockies and Dodgers LOL:discuss:

sorry kermit - you are wrong.

IF the astros and giants sweep, the dodgers/giants/astros all have the same record and in this case, the following would happen:

Monday: Dodgers/Giants play to see who wins the West.

Tuesday: The loser of Monday's game plays the Astros to see who gets the Wild Card

i have read this in too many places for it not to be true

Winky,
The main reason I posted this was because Redeye and I already had this argument and He convinced me that the 1 game playoff counted and therefor the Dodgers record would be 92-71 while the Astros would be 92-70. I do know that these stats count as part of the regular season records like hr's etc. Let's just say that Bonds hits 3 home runs in the extra playoff game and passes up Beltre's 48 hr. Bonds would thereby win the nl home run championship. I went to mlb.com to check this out and it appears that you are correct on this play-off scenaria. Dang ! I am hoping that the Giants win Division and Astros win wild card as I have some 100/1 on Astros to win WS and 50/1 to win the NL

Possible Wildcard Playoff Monday

This is a quote from the Houston paper(AP)If the Astros lose and the Giants win Sunday, the teams would play Monday afternoon in San Francisco. The winner would get the wild card.

I have the Astros at 33 to 1 to win NL championship! I bet it earlier this month when they were 5 games out and had 4 teams to overtake! I like my chances actually.

The Cardinals dont have great pitching when it comes to 2 or 3 dominant starters. In the playoffs, you only need 3 starting pitchers. I will take OSwalt and Clemens over ANY pitchers that St Louis has!

I bet $665 on the Astros to win the NL crown! GO ASTROS!!!!!1

The win is zero right now! I will think about the money after tomorrow afternoon! Keep in mind that I only bet on them because i am a season ticket holder and watch all of the games. It sure has been more exciting this way!!

By the way, where could someone find 50 to 1 on the Astros?? I searched far and wide to find the 30 to 1. I made a post error in the last post, it should have read 30 to 1! At the same time that i placed the 30 to 1 bet, most of the higher juice shops were offering the Stros at 20 to 1 or so. 3 "sister" books had the 30 to 1 as did one other shop! But then again the Cubs were like 2 to 1 or so, so they made some cash I am sure for futures bets!

Also, I did lose similar bets on 2 other teams at odds of 25to1 or higher already taking a shot, so I am already down $350 for each of those 2 bets!

Take a look ahead as well. If Houston wins tommorow they go into the playoffs the hotest team in baseball.
