Easy, where you at? PSL?
Our house is a few hundred feet from the intracoastal, and anything over a 3, my wife and I and the pets are out of here, no thought even given. I was in a mandatory evac zone, but I assessed the situation, and realized that we were not going to be in danger by staying, so we stayed. But we are also equipped with a concrete block house and hurricane proof windows.
Which leads me to what has bothered me through this whole thing. I think that anyone that had the means to leave NO actually left. It was all of the people that don't have a car (which I would believe is quite a bit, since NO is a pretty large size city with public transportation) that were basically stuck there. So basically most of the poor got poorer because they couldn't leave.
This storm was too big and with the NO situation of being below sea level, and assumedely with most of the buildings there not built out of concrete like we most here in S. Fla., I can't imagine people being so naive as to think they could survive a large storm.
I have never been to the Big Easy, and it is such a sad situation. Take some betting profits or skip a night of wagering and donate to the Red Cross.
