With his perfect swing, he may be a legit threat to steal the thing....

I wonder what kind of odds Ichiro will have on him..he might be worth a look.

Ichiro can place the ball anywhere he wants ON the field , but can he find the seats enough to knock off the remining MLB sluggers, in the post steroid era:icon_conf

The guy is apparently a legend in batting practice. According to players, he can go yard almost at will. I'm definitely pulling for him in the derby.

He's not a home run hitter Dante...But in batting practice he can put on a display with his sweet swing and bat control, lacing line drive after line drive into the right field seats...Wade Boggs had this same ability....

BP pitching, I wouldn't count him out.

Worth 15-1?

Just a guess on odds.

Wade once made the comment he could hit 45 HR a year if so desired.........but only hit .260

I've heard the same thing regarding him being the batting practice king but with the way his hitting has gone south all year I wonder if he will be equally less than perfect going against soft tosses.

Well obviously my opinion is gold in baseball...if you turn the Tracking Forum MLB Standings upside down I will be in second place ...... Soooo ...... I would be surprised if Ichiro wins .

Seems to me the last few years the pitching (lolly pops) suck more than usual ... I guess I'll be a homer and say Andrew Jones as long as they don't throw curveball looly pops.

It is a definite possibility of him winning. Sort of like Garret Anderson winning without any impressive blasts a few years ago.

He has a shot even though I don't think he'll win. He definitely won't be slap hitting and halfway towards first when he swings during the home run contest.

If he is 20-1 like I had on GA that year I will definately take a peak.

You have a 40% chance of getting your money back .... - 5 % for Old Man Ted pitching...

Teixeira was chosen out of a deep field of All-Star sluggers to represent the United States. He'll join a field for Monday's event that includes Major League home run leader Andruw Jones (representing the Netherlands), Boston DH David Ortiz (Dominican Republic), Philadelphia's Bobby Abreu (Venezuela), Pittsburgh's Jason Bay (Canada), Detroit's Ivan Rodriguez (Puerto Rico) and Milwaukee's Carlos Lee (Panama).

The field lost one potential slugger when Yankees slugger and Japanese native Hideki Matsui did not the AL Final Vote. That leaves Ichiro Suzuki as the only Japanese player left on either All-Star roster. Ichiro told members of the Japanese media that he wanted to learn more about the event before deciding whether to take part. He apparently has not received a formal invitation.

Ill pass I dont even know the format, do they get 10 strikes or something? I have not watched that garbage contest in 5+ years.

granted its a lot better than the NBA slam dunk contest, as least the fans have heard of the players in the HR contest.

Ichiro is no longer in the contest. HeeSop Choi will replace him. I would have liked to see Ichiro launch balls out of the yard.
