Thought I would start a new thread for the new month.

Time to get the show on the road as football goes into full force this week and I can hardly wait.

Finally starting to settle in. It is so funny most people I know ask me what I do all day but I have had no time to sit around since I have been here. I have been very busy. I think a lot of it stems from the fact you cant get around very fast so I always feel like I am running behind, it drives me nuts The traffic lights are the longest lights I have ever sat thru in my life.

Went to the Hilton today and signed up for their football contest. Pretty expensive ($1,500) but something I have always wanted to do. The rest of the contests I have signed up for around town are anywhere between free and up to $250. Counting the 2 I am playing online I am in a total of 13 contests. The bad thing is I could sign up for another 10 if I really wanted to. Now I have to form some sort of strategy with this as I am not sure how I want to do this.

I think today was the coolest day we have had since I have lived here (a month on Wednesday). I think it might have got as high as 93 or so and you could tell, it was perfect. I will miss the fall of the midwest though, it is my favorite time of the year.

One thing I have went back and forth with is the thought of either working with someone or alone at this. Without going to much into detail I can already see how much more you can get accomplished if you work with people doing this. I will get more into that thought later when I have more time.

You said you signed up for 13 contests but passed on 10 more.

What was the reasoning behind passing on the others? Was it just prioritizing the value of the contests, money, time constraints?

Just curious.

I've signed up for 0 contests so far. Debating on whether to enter the MartyJ one. That would make a total of one.

They are all the same format more or less. It seems like it is one f 4 different contest. Some are pick 5 teams against the spread. Others just straight up no spread. Another one is perfect ballot wins, no perfect ballot no one wins and it rolls over. This will be the 1st RX one I havent played in 2-3 years and I have played in the carib at least 3-4 years in a row, not this year.

I think it is borderline confusing after awhile. Some of these contests you get 3 entries into and not sure how to approach that. Then you get into do you keep the same ballots in the same type contest that are run by 2 different properites. Isnt that putting all your eggs in one basket so to speak?

I budgeted $2,500 for these and the Hilton is $1,500 of it. All are at books I want to go to throughout the week and location played into it a little. Maybe 10 more maybe a stretch. I could have found maybe 5 more in town (maybe less) but they are all very much the same as one I am already in (and I have no idea why my keyboard did this to me and I am to lazy to go back and re-type it)

Probably too much but they are all 100% pay outs so I hope it is worth it and I win back a few bucks but I am not holding my breath.

There are "vultures" just waiting for new money coming into town. You were successful doing it on your own at home, so I wouldn't change a thing. Vegas is vicious. Good Luck

I doubt it unless I end up loving it here but I do know the next place will have trees, green grass, big fenced yard (at least 1 acre preferably more), and 4 changing seasons. Poster Kermit talked me into Oregon. I honestly think Vancouver is the leading candiate for my next move. If I am still doing this. Have always loved that area or the east coast around something simple like delaware, maine, etc...

I hear ya there. Trust is huge in this. Not sure I really know anyone well enough to even attempt this.

Ironically I have a close friend who is moving here or to Colorado in the next month and has been trying to talk me into working together at this as he is bored etc. He has a lot going for him and is a hard worker who is relaiable and tustworthy but I know he just doesnt have the stomach for th ehuge flucuations in his bankroll as he has never did anything this befre in his life and I dont have it in me to keep his sprits up 24/7.

I hear ya!!

I have thought about Oregon, Vancouver, and Maine also............however, Billsey says she cannot handle the cold.

I guess Oregon and Vancouver wouldn't be brutally cold.

I always thought of living on the ORE/WASH border..........on the Wash side,............ no income tax in WASH and no sales tax in OREGON.

Think I would really like Oregon or Washington to live.

Posted this in your August thread but you may not have seen it:

Hey Ice, what do you plan on doing careerwise after the 1-2 years of betting full time? Are you worried about being able to get a job with a 1-2 year gap on your resume, explaining that you were a professional gambler or "advantage bettor" or whatever professional sounding term you want to use? That's the one thing that would concern me.

Omni, same question to you, did you have a hard time finding a job after you gambled for a living?

I prefer to say online trader or investor. A lot of times when people here that they think it mut be something that goes over their head or they dont understand and so they dont usually ask many more questions. I say that a lot nowadays. Most people usually leave it alone then but an employer may be different I would asume.

I dont plan on working for anyone ever again in my life if I can help it. Hopefully I build up enough of bank to continue to this in another area of the country or I would love to mentor underneath somone and learn to daytrade the stock market. I would think if anything this expierence would be perfect for that so maybe this would come back to help me. I love numbers and stats and want to be doing something with them like that.

If I get burned out of this but saved decent money doing this then I would use that money to start some sort of business in one of the previous areas of the ountry we talked about earlier. Something simple and start a family. Last case scenairo would be going back to my previous employer who I left in good touches with, as he knows where I am and what i am doing. I made great money doing that.

Bottom line and I cannot stress this enough, life is so short. I cant believe I am 37 years old already. Do something you enjoy and find a way to get paid for it (that is my hope, LOL). No more working a job because it pays the bill, it is about happiness for me. I loved my last job, I just got burned out of it.

I always wanted to do this so I figured the time was now or never with this for us, so we went for it. I do not know if I will end up liking this or if it will be stimulating enough for me. It may get old real fast, who knows? Hard to explain but I have always loved the challenge with this. I love the competitive game I play with myself each day with trying to think this all thru. I love the chase of looking for great numbers. Forecasting line movements. Hitting a middle. I love the competitive aspect of winning and losing this lifestyle can bring. I love numbers. I love to handicap. I love waking up everyday and trying to solve this puzzle. This is why I want to learn to day trade one day (if anyone wants to train me ,I am an eager student, LOL). But ask me in a year how I feel about it. Having to "make your check" each month is never easy.

Thankfully I have a setup if I dont win at this it isnt the end of the world. The worst part is not only could you work hard and bust your ass for a month or longer for nothing but you lose money a lot of money on top of it. I want a job where I reap the rewards for a job well done. I would rather have a job where the pay is dictated on how well I perform instead of a straight salary.

If there is one thing this whole venture has taught me so far it is dont be afraid and just go for it. What is the worst that can happen? We have had some really shitty luck so far with all this. Unbelieveable stuff we never budgeted for in a million years but not for one second have we regretted trying something different in life. If you dont try something different then the next thing you know you wake up and your 60 years old and it is too late.

Sorry about the rant. Just got going and couldnt stop, LOL.
