I never use to have a fear of things like flying til all the recent terror crap, next week I will be flying down to Louisville and I already am having panic attacks just thinking of being in that plane ....

Should I drink heavy? Its been 10 years since I have been on a plane?

2mg of Xanax when you leave for airport. 2mg of Xanax as you board plane. You may not remember landing and your mind will be at peace, and yes have a couple drinks as well.

My suggestions would be

1) remember that they can deny boarding if they THINK you had one too many drinks
2) bring an mp3 player and load it with your favorite music, you will have something you can just sit back and enjoy
3) bring chewing gum or other kind of candy/snacks for the trip
4) before you leave to the airport make sure you are carrying as little metal as you can , put your change in your briefcase/carry on, all metal objects should be in briefcase if possible to expedite the inspections at security checkpoints
5) try not to drink too much liquid, otherwise and depending on lenght of the flight you may have to stand up and go to the toilet in the plane and if you are scared to start with.................

Get ready for Fear Factor and strap yourself to the wing of the plane. You should not be concerned with flying. The security line at the airport is what you should be concerned about. Hopefully you're not flying out of a busy airport because the TSA is complete bullsh*t.

I'm afraid of flying too. Only done it once. Doing it again this feb to iceland.

First flight was to Paris... No suggestions. I just take my laptop and play games and listen to music and try not to think about it and I'm fine.

Relax, flying is no big deal. Have a drink if you like but just relax.

Besides, when you're number is up, you number is up. You just want to make sure that you're not on a plane with someone else whoose number is up.

Hope that helped.

something like 44,000 people are KILLED EACH YEAR on the roads. theres probably over 100,000 seriously injured.

major airlines last year had one plane go down with 45 or so people on board. zero planes went down the year before. so 88,000 killed in two years on the roads and 45 on major airlines.

it really amazes me that people are scared to fly. the more you fly, the more you realize its not worth getting scared over. its just something to get through.

driving scares me. not a lot, but I have almost been killed about 5 times on the road where I ended up without a scratch, but was nearly hit by careless drivers at such speed that had they hit me, I have no doubt no hospital could have saved me.

I have never had any issues flying.

If I really believed that when yur number was up at a certain point no matter what i would be skydiving, hang glyding, surfing in Hawaii, and all sorts of outrageous risky things...

I believe in being cautious to preserve my existence, however this is one time I realize I gotta fly no matter what, in fact I will probbaly be flying 6-8 times a year from now on...and I am tentatively planning a trip to Italy this summer, now that will be difficult! I am not afraid of being high up in the sky, height doesn't bother me....I have known for a few months I had to fly and now that its coming down to it, the reality is sinking in...

Anyone know how far in advance I have to be at the airport? I have not been in this situation since all the new regulations took effect...

Apparently you guys have never had a phobia in your life.

You can spout off statistics all day long... They don't mean anything.

I remember the first time I walked into an airport. I was like 18 years old and it made my stomach turn enough that I needed to remove myself. I'm not quite that bad anymore since I've flown now...

Anyway... Just thought I'd remind you guys that phobias can seldom be reasoned with. Say whatever you want.
