I don't get it? Jerry Austin either did lie on national TV or doesn't know the rules.

Even Gruden was like WTF is this fool saying

Maybe Jerry Austin is a Saints fan.
Amazing how many people on a gambling forum don't know the basic rules of football.

I am torn on the call. Do you give the pats the ball on the 1 yard essentially giving them the win on that pass? Can you honestly say that that ball thrown in the middle of 5 defenders would have been caught by Gronk basically giving the Pats a 1 YD TD run for the win? I don't think so. I think if it was a little closer to him with a higher percentage that he could have caught the ball then you have to throw the flag but given the 4 Panthers surrounding him I don't think he was catching that pass.

NFL officiating isn't supposed to be subjective based on the situation in the game (even though it sometime is)

A guy ran down the field and was blatantly faceguarded/held/hugged/tackled/molested, it is a penalty. If nothing else it is holding and you get another play. Nothing crazy for the NFL, just another bad call that cost a team a chance to win...

I thought it was a penalty but I'm not a professional ref Pats. As soon as I think I have the rules figured out, something strange happens that completely blows my mind.

yeah bad calls happen, it didn't surprise me or anything. They happen every week in the NFL

it was just really funny to hear Austin come on TV and lie after.

Also 1 other thought on the game that some may have missed, Belichick still can't do 1st grade math when it comes to timeout management at the end of halves. Considering he is supposed to be the best coach of this generation that is kindof a damn shame...

Gronk got mugged well before the ball got close to him... Nice pic.... Whether he would of caught it or not is irrevelant... The question is "would he had any chance to make a play on the ball"? Yes if he wasn't being bear hugged he would of had a desperate chance.... At the least it should of been illegal contact... I bet the Panthers but that was an awful pick up of the flag.... Panthers/Saints should be 2 great ball games

The call against Brooks sacking Brees was far, far worse. While I think this was probably defensive holding, I can see the argument that Austin and the ref made. The sack on Brees was total BS. I have never seen such a call. You can't hit low, you can't hit the head, and now you can't hit the chest//neck?? I guess they'll have to paint a belt on each Offensive player, especially the chosen ones like Brady, Peyton, Brees, and they can only be hit in that spot, anywhere else is a flag??

Payback for the negative karma and unsportsmanlike behavior Bellicheat brings to the NFL. Payback for every call Tom Brady has gotten because he's Tom Brady. Payback is a bitch.

i agree with you. the guy that hit brees did everything right and got called for a personal foul that essentially cost his team the game. the truth is, the play he made should have won the game for his team and it ended up losing the game for his team. the NFL is becoming unwatchable like the NBA

No way was Gronk gonna catch that ball; looked correct to me.

How could he when he was put in 4 point restraints.

If the ball was thrown any part of the field except where it was its not inteference. That is a picture perfect case of PI.

I can tell you one thing and this is without a doubt. If Peyton Manning was the QB it would be first and goal to go from the one with no time left.

We are the reason why this crap happens. Vegas runs the NFL, always has an always will. We get the WWE on Sunday and all we can hope for is that our team is on the right side.

They could have called a hold, gave Cats a 5 yard penalty, 1 play left from the 13.

The only person that was out of the play was the cocksucker who overturned the flag.
The backjudge was right on top of the play with the best look out of everybody.

the lead official explained after the game that they (paraphrasing) "in essence picked up the flag because the ball was intercepted before contact was made". That statement and that position is categorically incorrect. I haven't seen one NFL guy (former player or coach now talking head)defend the call.

it was a horseshit decision to pick up the flag

having said that, they may have still lost the game and the game is 60 minutes long

Put me down for calling it a bad call. I am with some of the previous posters who have stated they are confused about the rules even though they may have been watching football for over 50 years. I had the under last night and really felt like I got away with one.
