I thought I knew everything about craps, but wouldn't have thought of this

If you're playing at a casino with high odds....10x or 20x or even 100x at a few places........instead of placing the 5 and 9, you bet the table minimum as a put bet, which is like a come bet after the initial roll. For example, at a casino with 20x odds, you put 5 as a put bet on the 9, and take 100 odds. 105 pays 155, with is 1.476 instead of 1.4. Also, if they charge commission on the 4 and 10 buys when you buy them, you can do the same on the 4 and 10, and it pays 1.95, equal to being in Vegas with no commission before the roll.

Even at just 10x odds, you can get 1.45 on the 5 and 9, which is equal to a free buy on those numbers, like in Mississippi. They make a big deal about how great it is in Mississippi to buy the 5 and 9 for free.

Illini----they are not letting you put 100x odds down behind a put wager are they?

but they will of course on numerous COME wagers as new points during the roll get established..

but for sure if you are playing a negative expectation game like craps, which many of us do. best to play the wagers with lowest casino edge so use the high free odds...but not so much to make you go on tilt if you lose a few!

Yes, they are. Nobody anywhere knows to do it, though. I learned it from a guy playing in Chicago. I know craps is -EV, but I love the game. I used to play it a lot, but now I usually only play it in Vegas on vacation. I've been a couple times in Chicago this summer with friends, and I went for the throat and got lucky.

then they are clever in getting customers to make more lousy odds "put" wagers, are you saying they will let you put odds behind put wagers, but not odds behind place wagers right? what about lay wagers?

Anyway, still a bit better to avoid the put cause a put wager edge for the house is higher than a come wager for the house..... true however that putting odds behind both lower the edge..you could do much worse!

unless they are rounding something off and literally making it a zero edge bet but your numbers dont indicate that.

Im just getting coffee into me so sorry if Im missing something else in your info....

anything to avoid lousy Place wagers is smart however when you have leverage of high free odds there... BOL!

To me, it's more fun to place every number. I know that the lowest vig is the play pass line with odds, but that isn't fun. Stand at a table for 5 hours and let them grind you away. So if I'm going to play a game that is pure gambling, I might as well take a shot. Put bets allow you to do so without getting raped with the 5 and 9, and 4 and 10 when you have to pay up front for it.

Absolutely the golden rule in gambling is if you are going to play any negative expectation situation, if you are really going to play, your best move is to load up on as few of wagers as possible. then leave either way! casinos hate this and lucky for them virtually nobody going to a casino does that! the grind is what pays the bills.

have a short burst roll this weekend or whenever you do it...

Craps is all about the long roll. I enjoy playing. Actually, I love playing, just don't play much because I want to win at gambling. My main point here is just that if you are going to load the board, it makes no sense to place the 5 and 9 or buy the 4 and 10. If you put 100 on the 5, no dealer is going to say hey, throw me another 5 and you'll get 3 to 1 on it.

Illini- I learned this a couple of years ago too while playing at a 100x odds table. I know it's better odds than placing the 5 or 9 but haven't researched it to see how much. Never too old to learn something new. It always helps when a new system wins for you.

Hey Cy, it's good to see you around these parts. If you can find a $1 or $2 table with 100x odds like Casino Royale used to have, the house virtually has no edge if you're playing big and playing the right way.

The casinos don't hate any -EV bet made by the player. That's just a stupid statement.

The Horseshoe in Council Bluffs has 100x odds. It's a nice casino. If you're ever close check it out.

Long term..>>it does not matter if you take odds or not; eV is = 0....> I know; people will say that is what you want; rather than -1.4; but still; long term; it makes no difference if you play free odds or not.

You know a lot about odds. Impressive.

I sort of agree with this, but also don't. I think that if you are going to win in a casino, you have to let it fly and go for a score instead of letting the house grind you down over hours and hours. But I also think that getting the best odds you can is never something to pass up if you're going to play.

Your statement is stupid, admit it.

You said the casino hates -EV bets for the player, Bzzzzzt.

Of course they want you to bet more, but to say they hate +EV bets for them is idiotic and just plain wrong.

There use to be more places in Vegas giving out 10X+ Odds, but I can't find many that I like to play at.

Even the Golden Nugget had great odds back a few years ago.. not anymore

no what I said is that if a casino gets you to their door and all you and all the patrons do is make a single full bankroll wager once and then leave win or lose they hate it..in fact if that is what every patrons Vegas vacation was there would be no casinos or hotels or shareholders...so yea they hate that.. you my uninformed friend do not understand what OVERHEAD to run a business is all about...google it.......DAH!

Illini- We need to play craps together sometime. I have the same motto playing craps as I had playing baseball....Swing hard in case you hit it. You and I would have fun at a casino.
