Former Washington Redskins defensive back Fred Smoot was arrested over the weekend and charged with misdemeanor domestic assault.


Police were summoned to an Ashburn, Va., home at around 11 a.m. Sunday, a spokesman for the Loudoun County sheriff’s office said. The alleged victim told police that her boyfriend had grabbed her during an altercation and Smoot was taken into custody.


Smoot was booked on a charge of misdemeanor domestic assault and released at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center.


Chris Kinard, program director for WJFK-FM, said on the station’s website that “Smoot’s appearances have been suspended at this time.” Smoot also has been suspended indefinitely by Comcast SportsNet, for whom he is a contributor.
