because he figured a way to paid only 12% in income taxes, not all us are able to loop hole our way into only paying 12%. Kerry is a hypocritical punk. Bush paid 30% and I'm sure most working people paid atleast 30%.
eek.....I'm with yah.....Party on dudes! (I checked out that link you posted....good thing they froze the numbers, otherwise they'd move so fast they'd cause too much of a blur to read..)
....raise them taxes....not that a politician would care, being that he's got a full pay retirement package waiting for him courtesy of the general fund....
I know you are a very opinionated political person. No
problem with that, so am I. We both have very strong
beliefs and concerns. Sometimes, I think you got to
give it a little break and watch the games. Very
spirited, good natured and helpful things going on
in the sports forum. Why don't you have some
fun and join us before this election kills you.

I don't know how much of a loophole it is but I believe they're invested heavily in tax-free municipals. He probably pays more on his civil salary than off personal investments (assuming he has any). Personally, I have to take on more risk because I intend on using that money later on whereas Teresa is already at retirement age and should be able to tread water on 4% with all her dough. What bugs me was the lawyering of Edwards when asked why he didn't pay more into Medicare if he believed that the well-off should pay more. To which he responded, "I paid all taxes that were due."
Now that I think about it, Kerry might benefit from his own plan. I don't know how much Senators make but I'd bet that it's under 200K. Teresa can stick with the municipals.
His effective rate was strategically lowered by investment losses and charitable giving. I've been wondering why he's paying FICA on his Senate pay as I thought they were partitioned from us Joe Blow's. I don't think he withheld enough from his wages. There should be penalties and interest. I have a friend who's self-employed and they dinged him pretty good for that. I don't know enough about tax law to be sure, though, and those long returns give me a case of ADD.
After reading his '03 return again he did owe and pay a penalty. I also see he gave Goodwill $85. How very generous of him. Maybe miscellaneous could spare some of that $18,650? WTF kind of charity is miscellaneous?
Looks like Edwards and his wife made $360,000 with the other 90% routed through the S-corp. With a TI of almost 4 million they paid about 1.5 in taxes.
Chances are that when you make so much more than others that'll happen. Without seeing his entire return I can only speculate as to what he's claiming to lower his taxes. The reason I brought it up is because he wants the well-off to pay more but somehow I don't think he wanted to include Mr. Kerry or himself in that group. I was curious after Cheney made a similar accusation during their debate and he tried to lawyer his way out of it. I might have bought if I didn't have to deal with that type of game on a daily basis.
