Find a $2-3k beater. Use it for 3 months and sell it for what you paid for it. That's what I would do. Plus that is the perfect time to sell a beater as people buy their teenagers cars to go back to school. Win-Win. Actually have one to sell. Only 80k miles, so not really a beater, just 12 years old, great shape, and happens to be in the price range. New tires this week, and some kid will be very happy.
Ole girl wants and deserves a new car, so guess it's back to the first car payment I've had in over 8 years.
Id just hate to be stuck with it. I had to sell both of our cars last year and that was a much bigger /hard/more time consuming job than I would have ever expected.
I sold both my cars the first day on craigslist for the price I wanted.
Hell I had a 16ft box truck that I thought I would never sell that sold within 2 weeks. Drove and made good money for a year in it, and still sold for more than I paid for it.
Go to hertz and sign up for the month to month, I did this for over a year and did not have to worry about selling a car, If I had buy/lease, I would have had to come up with deposit etc.

i'd be livid if I bought one of these cheap cars and then something happens and I'd have to put money into it....
I don't trust older cars at all...
