I was very saddened to learn that a friend of mine, Andy Glazer, passed away yesterday at the age of 48 due to complications related to a "blood clot."

For those of you who weren't around on this site some years ago, ANDY did free lance writing for THERX.COM before accepting his position with the DETROIT FREE PRESS...

We met about twenty five years ago, while I was studying to be a Physician, down in Atlanta, Georgia.

Andy was briefly practicing LAW at the time and I knew he HATED it, which made me like him EVEN MORE...

Much like myself, ANDY GLAZER was one of the MOST COMPETETIVE friends I have ever met, and whatever he got himself involed with in his life, he had to do it well or he couldn't live with himself...

When I became a good backgammon player, ANDY surpassed me. When I competed with him in a FANTASY BASEBALL league for 10 plus years, ANDY almost always finished ahead of me...

To KNOW ANDY was to love this man, who prided himself with high morals...

Like many of us involved in gambling, ANDY had some personal issues that he fought off his entire life, and I know he truly found some solace when he took 2 years of his life and spent it in a commune type facility in California..

One lasting memory which depicts his character involved a night of heavy drinking by yours truly back in Atlanta when Andy was a lawyer. I called him at 3 AM in the morning to come and get me. He was there in 10 minues, taking me home safely. That's the KIND man that ANDY was and I wish all of his friends and family the very best throughout this difficult time...

I miss you Andy and thanks for all the memories...

My deepest sympathies.

Please also pray or keep in your mind Alan Palmer (who is a poster here in the Baseball forum) for his mother who was recently in a bad car accident..She is improving and will hopefully come out of it soon...

Not to take away from your post..but we should always be wary of such horrible things.

May you find peace

Col- Yes it was.

I too have written articles side by side with Andy and he was A good guy that left us too young.

Very scary that sitting in front of a computer for extended periods of time can do this to you. I do not know if that was the case in Andy's death but do know this is one way that people get blood clots.

Krackman makes a good point, alot of health problems can be cause by extended periods of sitting at the computer....you wouldn't think it, but I have read of some of the strange happenings...its best to get up walk away stretch etc...it can also cause nerve damage...

I was shocked and saddened to learn this news. Although I did not know Andy personally we have communicated from time to time over the years by email. I always found him to be an upright guy. Hope this wasn't one of those things TPA could have fixed.

My condolences.

To all...

The news has reached me of Andrew (Andy) Glazer's death. I spoke to Andy yesterday at 11am UK time and he seemed fine. He was up late as usual, and we spoke at length of his trip to Europe and of his work in Inside Edge.
He spoke of his desire to visit England before Paris. It is incredible and awful that he has passed away. 48 years old , and with a lot to give, it is a tragic loss.

The game is in mourning today, it has lost one of its first lieutenants. As a budding poker writer, Andrew was an inspiration, as well as a help. He had a fantastic turn of phrase and could paint a picture of an event as clear as any television crew. I truly believe he would have been an excellent writer in whatever discipline he had chosen to cover.

As it was, he loved poker, and he was poker's finest. He was also a good player and delighted in Dublin at telling me of his two recent tournament victories.

The poker world was lucky to have Andrew, not just for his prose but for his personality. He was warm, charming, funny, hardworking and honest. He was a real gentlemen and a man of integrity. There is an empty seat at poker's top table today.

My condolences to his friends and family.

I remember some of Andy's posts in RGP -- he was a well respected figure in the poker community that's for sure.

My condolences.
