I was very saddened to learn that a friend of mine, Andy Glazer, passed away yesterday at the age of 48 due to complications related to a "blood clot."
For those of you who weren't around on this site some years ago, ANDY did free lance writing for THERX.COM before accepting his position with the DETROIT FREE PRESS...
We met about twenty five years ago, while I was studying to be a Physician, down in Atlanta, Georgia.
Andy was briefly practicing LAW at the time and I knew he HATED it, which made me like him EVEN MORE...
Much like myself, ANDY GLAZER was one of the MOST COMPETETIVE friends I have ever met, and whatever he got himself involed with in his life, he had to do it well or he couldn't live with himself...
When I became a good backgammon player, ANDY surpassed me. When I competed with him in a FANTASY BASEBALL league for 10 plus years, ANDY almost always finished ahead of me...
To KNOW ANDY was to love this man, who prided himself with high morals...
Like many of us involved in gambling, ANDY had some personal issues that he fought off his entire life, and I know he truly found some solace when he took 2 years of his life and spent it in a commune type facility in California..
One lasting memory which depicts his character involved a night of heavy drinking by yours truly back in Atlanta when Andy was a lawyer. I called him at 3 AM in the morning to come and get me. He was there in 10 minues, taking me home safely. That's the KIND man that ANDY was and I wish all of his friends and family the very best throughout this difficult time...
I miss you Andy and thanks for all the memories...
