Here's my play tonight...
Memphis has not seen a bowl game in over a decade, yet they waltz into this one as a favorite. That´s bad news for these guys. There is enough pressure and confusion when you are heading into a bowl game but when none of the kids on your roster have ever been through the experience, it makes preparation that much more difficult. When you also find yourself as the favorite in the bowl game, now you are talking even more pressure. I don´t expect the Tigers to be adequatley prepared for this contest and I also expect them to be a bit nervous making it to their first bowl game in a long while and having it on national television. The Tigers closed out their season by winning five of their last six but they failed against the spread in four of their last five games. Getting a blowout win over the Louisville Cardinals put great expectations on this team by oddsmakers and they were not able to reach those expectations. They also closed out their season by losing at home to South Florida 21-16. This is not the way you want to go into your bowl game if it´s the first time any of your players are going there. I think Memphis needed the confidence of going into the bowl game with a win and they didn´t get it. Memphis was 2-4 this season as a favorite and I don´t like their chances of covering in this game v. this opponent.
Not only did North Texas go to a bowl game last year, they went to this bowl game. This is good for them. Talking from experience, there are plenty of distractions for young 18-22 year olds in New Orleans. However, North Texas had a chance to have their eyes and noses opened a year ago when they played Cincinnati in the New Orleans Bowl. The Eagles handled the distractions so well a year ago that they beat Cincinnati as underdogs 24-19. They are delighted to go back again and prove themselves to the many people out there that continue to doubt them. North Texas ended their season on an eight game win streak. They don´t know what it is to lose right now and I think they will play that way in this game. They are certainly in the same class with a team like Memphis and I would look for them to use a strong ground game and strong run defense to get their second win in as many New Orleans Bowl appearances. I like this game so much that I am going to make it my first MONEY LINE BOWL GAME KEY SELECTION of the season.
North Texas +4
Predicted Final: North Texas 20 Memphis 17
