I know things are sort of a mess in South Bend right now but what am I missing about them only being favored by 3 at Navy...Kaipo-noah is doubtful and I know they have played without him but I just see this as a great opportunity for ND to get back on track...

The offense can fling it around all day and ND should be able to put 8 in the box and really shut down the triple option...

thanks to anyone who might have any insight

I like Notre Dame here too. This line is identical to last year's number. But Notre Dame is much improved this year and i think Navy is somewhat worse. I'd lay the wood here.

temple was able to push navy around for about 3.5 quarters in annapolis. i think with the weis hot seat rumors and nd's loss to navy last year you got an irish victory on saturday

You would think that ND would be able to throw at will and cover easily against an overmatched Navy team, however, really hard to trust Notre Dame when they are expected to win.

Especially when ND hasnt beaten a team with a winning record, and their only road win was against lowly Washington. This line almost sounds too good to be true.
But this Navy team does have a nice win at WF
Then again, maybe the oddsmakers are undervaluing ND after their debacle last week against BC????

At this point I would be hesitant to bet on ND against a dog with a great running game like Navy. They can pound the ball and control TOP.

Weis is officially on the hotseat. He will be calling the plays this week. I actually like Navy and the over.

Yeah, when you take an unathletic Wake Forest team and lay 17 points against Navy, it is not surprising that you would get burned. But here, we are talking about laying only three against them with a team that is every bit as good if not better than Wake Forest.

A few weeks back, Pitt was laying a small # to Navy and utterly destroyed them. ND and pitt are roughly on the same level (maybe pitt is slightly ahead).

Also keep in mind that ND had their worst team in history last year and still almost beat a Navy team that was stronger than this year's squad. ND is much improved and they are used to Navy's option attack! They see it every year. Also, Navy's pass defense is atrocious and Clausen should light them up after laying an egg last week.

From what I've read, Navy is going to start their #2 Jarrod Bryant at QB, instead of Ricky Dobbs, a sophomore who led Navy to a 20 point 4th quarter and victory in OT ...

I'm going to the game, and am a huge Navy fan, but I would not bet on them if Bryant starts - will have phone in hand if Dobbs is named the starter.

this makes a lot of sense until you realize that Vegas doesn't give away free money - so what the heck is the deal with this line?

It's an overreaction to the egg that Notre Dame laid last week. If Navy was really any good they would not have been 17-point dogs against an extremely average wake team and they would not have gotten blown out against Pitt.

I'm going against the other historically public team (Michigan) and I'm taking a half-ass Northwestern team +3.5 who the public has turned on after some injuries to the Wildcats

I highly doubt it. Notre Dame dominates Navy basically every year. Last year was the lone exception, but that was ND's worst team ever taking on one of Navy's better teams. It will be back to usual this year.

Considering Notre Dame is consistently one of the most overrated teams in the country and Navy one of the most underrated, this line seems really fishy to me.

Lean Navy one minute, Notre Dame the next. No play for me.

Also consider that ND put up 44 on them last year. If the weather is fine, will play the ND team over.

nd2000,

you seem like a pretty knowledgable football guy, but I've read a lot of your stuff and your arrogance is sure to catch up with you...you need to remember who you are talking to...BOL to you but I doubt I see you around here at this time next year...seen it with guys like you many times before and you won't be the last either...

These two teams played three OTs last year @ ND and Navy won 46-44. They are now playing at a neutral site [ Baltimore ]. ND is a better team this year than last year. Last year ND had problems stopping the option because defensive coordinator Corwin Brown was from the NFL and didn't have a clue on how to slow down the triple option. This year asst HC Tenuta [ Georgia Tech ] is on board and I look for a big difference in stopping Navy's attack. Navy is not as good a team this year as it was last year. Notre Dame -3 or pass this game

Best Wishes
