I think its a throw back to the old horror films that you don't see too much anymore.

Ya know the sexy campers losing their virginity in the woods where and the bad guy chops off the guys head right fro mthe start so we get to see him chase the hot chick through some bouncy terrain.

Scream 1 kinda did it while spoofing itself while 2 and 3 seemed like R rated scoobie doo episodes.
