I guess maybe because our backgrounds are so different:
- He was a cheerleader at an exclusive prep school in Massachusetts. I played football at a public school 20 miles away (for a small white guy, I was slow
- He got all of his jobs thru family connections (and lost his investors a bunch of money in his failed businesses until he got together a group to stick the citizens of Arlington for the tab of the ballpark they built). I got all of my jobs thru the old fashioned way of pounding the streets and being qualified.
- He dodged the war of his generation by pulling strings to get into the Champagne Squadron of the National Guard where he subsequently skipped duty for a year while I shared the values of my liberal democrat uncles and father who volunteered for duty in WWII and Korea, respectively, by volunteering for and serving in Gulf War I (USMC).
- The president's work ethic allowed him to take 30 days vacation after serving only seven months as president while I am more like middle class America in that I haven't had 30 days of vacation over the last 3 years.
- The president thinks that the way to support the troops is to send them at his whim and discretion without the proper body armor and vehicle hardening kits overseas without building alliances, and at the same time proposing to cut combat pay and veterans benefit. I believe the way to support our troops is to follow the Powell Doctrine and:
: only use them as a last resort (remember he pulled the inspection teams despite their plea for 30 more days and the ultimate findings that there were no WMDs and this was despite advice from Gen. Zinni, former Centcom Commander).
: support them with overwehlming force; despite advice from commanders like General Shinseki, he followed advice of Rumsfeld and stationed 140,000 troops over there which is not enough to establish stability and thus the country is still a war zone and we suffer unnecessary casualties to this day.
: have a clear cut exit strategy - still waiting to hear this. How long will we be there and what is to be accomplished other than delusionary platitudes of democracy spreading like a flower in the middle east and providing a road map of peace for Palestine and Israel?
- The president believes it is better to give the rich including himself and Cheney and a big tax cut than it is to balance the budget or reduce the deficit. I disagree.
- The president believes it is more important to allow the ban on automatic weapons to expire and pander to the NRA while reducing police and I think the opposite makes people here safer at home.
- The president has stated he believes he was chosen by God to lead the nation during this period while I believe that people who believe they were chosen by God whether it be Osama bin Laden or Dubya are deluded fools.
So when it's all said and done I guess I just don't share the same values as this cat. Maybe I'd have to be born with a silver spoon in my mouth to understand his views better.
