This week, the early consensus bet on who will be the odd Idol out of tonight's elimination seems to be unraveling in last minute wagering. In the early betting, across a survey of online betting sites, the high rollers had put their money on the proposition that singer Elliot Yamin's journey will end tonight, picking him as least likely to win. However, on sites offering direct lines on the question "Who will go" the forecast is far murkier. What's more, other less traditional prognosticators are splitting from the bettors and foretelling a big surprise for tonight's show.
The Irish gambling site Paddy Power, gives Yamin the lowest "to win" odds in its current line, listing him at 7 to 1. The sites complete odds are as follows:
Chris Daughtry 11 – 10
Taylor Hicks 13- 8
Katharine McPhee 4 –1
Elliot Yamin 7 – 1.
By a whisker, the site Betfair gives Yamin the lowest "To Win" odds, following just below McPhee. Betfair's line is as follows:
Chris Daughtry 2.42 – 1
Taylor Hicks 2.5 – 1
Katherine McPhee 6 – 1
Elliot Yamin 6.2 – 1
The site Pinnacle Sports offers special betting for each contestant on the proposition, "Will X be eliminated on May 10th?" This line offers the shock answer of Katherine McPhee receiving the most bets on the "Yes" portion of that question, followed closely by Daughtry, Yamin with Taylor Hicks listed as a distant prospect for elimination.
DialIdol, the automated voting site which issues predictions based on a computer analysis of busy signal rates predicts a surprising race for the bottom, offering the following scores for each contestant —
the lower scores indicating greater likelihood of elimination.
Taylor Hicks -29.749
Elliott Yamin- 29.181
Katharine McPhee- 25.623
Chris Daughtry- 25.241
Meanwhile the "People Search and Public Information Search Engine" Zaba Search, which reports good results from the past shows, predicting the loser based on whom has been most searched for online, echoes the DialIdol results exactly. The site lists Daughtry as the least searched for, followed by McPhee, Yamin and Hicks.
And the tension mounts as the countdown enters its final hours.
