You have already made the first step in recovering and that is ADMITTING you do have a problem. The next step is talking and meeting with people who have the same problem and putting a program in motion. Good Luck!
I'm not doing it for anybody but myself, I want to prove I can do it without any outside help. If that fails, I will attend meetings, rehab, etc. Of course, the test will be the next time I am faced with temptation.

You should stock your fridge full of nothing by Sam Adams Lager. That shit is so nasty that you'll never want another drop of alcohol after going through a few pints of that garbage.
And if you really want to make it bad then pour a little salt on the brim of your beer mug like they do in Ontario.
DO what I did last night. I opened a bottle of wine for dinner and didn't taste it first!! Took a big gulp and almost threw-up, it had turned to vinagar. Now I know why they want you to taste it before you drink it. First time that has ever happened to me.
Back to your question. Years ago I would do the same thing , not sure how old you are? But I just up and quit drinking for 6 months back when I was in my late 20's. Started drinking again after 6 months and seemed to be able to handle moderation a lot better. GL

Lots of good advice here.If your not into the AA stuff or other programs Another rout is go to your doctor and tell him you want to stop but need help. Tell him to give you 60 days worth of antibuse medicine. If you drink while your on it you will NOT die but I promise you'll wish you had. It's not the complete answer to your problems but taking one each morning will eliminate the temptation. Then get back into running and taking care of yourself.
Lander is also correct, I never touch the Sam Adams in his fridge

GreenDoberman. stay away from coffee if you drink it in the morning. this, for whatever reason makes you crave things like alchohol and ciggarettes more.
get into the habit of eating good. if youre blacking out it means you are probably on an empty stomache. spend the money on foods you havent tried or foods that seem like only the rich can afford. eat regularly and eat until ur full. i mean make this the hobby instead of the booze. who knows, maybe you will learn to cook a soflet.
also if you eat good your sleep habits will be better. also drink plenty of water.
if you want to be a 1 or 2 drinks guy then you have to regualte your eating and water consumption as well as avoiding caffiene. 1 or 2 beers or glasses of wine has tremendous benefits; i dont know where to begin. after about 3 or 4 it becomes a negative. so many negatives; i dont know where to begin also.
