I really do. I am very passionate about who I support, most of it is derived from my utter disgust with the other candidate..

Why do we take politics so personal? When it's election time, and someone is on the opposite side as me, I lose repect for them.. and that is not right, but I can't help it.

Just take a step back and don't let it happen. I try to keep reality in line, but this site certainly has its share of people that get easily detached from it due to emotions. After the election is settled the emotions will calm down and we can all go back to gaining value from people that right now we might not agree with.

My problem with political discussions is that people only see Bush & Kerry and people only know Conservative and liberal.

People in the center are the most tolerant of others' politics. Those on the left or the right aren't tolerant at all and are very difficult to have political conversations with.

I find that the far right and ANYONE on the left is the hardest to reason with because their views border on psychotic :D

Also... I know I'm new here...but I plan on spending a good amount of time here and I'd like to see a site where everyone actually gets along. I think a site like this can police themselves. Those who are idiots and just take away from the site won't be recognized as real members of the site...if everyone just ignored them they'd go away.

The only thing these people care about is responses.

If you DON'T respond to them I proimse you they'll leave. All these people want is replies with their names in them.

I too hate what is happening to me during this election.
I think this is one of the few elections that has so many
hot topics and anger provoking rhetoric.

Stem cell research--those in favor such as myself, feel that
this science has the possibility of eliminating forever many
diseases. I just can't understand anyone being against
Federal funding for this issue. However, the opponents feel
that this may be against the law of God, so they are very
adamant in their stance.

War--many feel this was unnecessary and the loss of
innocent lives. The other side believes that it was
a necessary step to fight terrorism. These arguments
are obvious but they get people crazy.

Taxes--again many people feel that the extremely rich and
corporate America is not pay anywhere near their fair share.
The opposing people believe that you cannot stifle capitalism
by taxing the people that generate commerce and capital.

Many more obvious arguments that have very strong believers
in both camps. I haven't seen this since I was a kid in
University during the VN war.

Just my opinion,

in your heart, you know i'm right

politics, religion and sports will always evoke emotion. maybe change your avatar...then you might start posting about sports and gambling.

I agree Noreaga. That's why I kept trying to get the Mods to keep politics out of the Offshore Sportsbook section but they won't. I don't even want to read what people here think about politics.

Bottom line is you'll never change anyone's ideology and beliefs so it's a waste of time to argue.

blue,
as far as my avater goes.. I feel strong in my convictions. that is not the problem. The problem is the way my blood boils when discussing politics with people on the other side.

I'm just going to try to not talk politics until Nov 2nd. and hopefully it will be to rejoice and really rub it in the face of Bush supporters :)

Right now there is not much moderators can do about politcal threads. The election is on almost everyones mind and it is also a major issue as far as gambling goes. I tried for months to keep at least the non-gambling political threads out of the Offshore forum only to have posters complain I was being biased if I moved their thread and not all the others. Best advice I can give is live with it for 2 more weeks and hopefully after the election we will create some sort of criteria for politcal threads that remain here in the Offshore Forum. I understand everyone who posts a thread (political or otherwise) wants to get as much feedback as possible and that happens in this forum more so than any others so no one likes it when their threads are moved. The problem is the same with pick threads which we try to keep in the various sport forums. One big open forum for all topics would not be good for anyone IMO. but right now political threads are going to keep popping up here in the Offshore forum and there is not much that can be done without posters complaining "why me".

For one thing I am only one moderator and do not work 24 hours a day. I am the late night Mod (grave yard shift). If a thread is posted during the day it is not up to me to move it. As far as my guidelines go I doubt if you know what they are. Let me guess you are talking about threads started by Shrink that were not moved - right? Please show me some threads that were not moved according to my guidelines.

your reasoning that night was it needed to be atleast closely related to gambling to remain in offshore...

my post was about a song that fans of that type of music should download.
immediately moved. thats fine...

but dont let " how do i burn a cd" "need help finding a golf course" "good cell phone offer" stand.

dont give me that one mod garbage. dont act like your job is demanding or strenuous... you click the mouse lol
