Dam I love the Big Red Machine in Nebraska. But with Callahan as the coach, I am not feeling it. I dont think he's tough enough to be the captain of the Huskers ship. Nebraska is a rugged program with rugged players, and that whats get others to fear and respect them. Callahan is to soft. He is not even close to a Tom Osborne. In my opinion, he already made his first major mistake when he didnt retain Def Coordinator Pellini, who was the mastermind behind that top ranked Husker Defense last year. The players repect him and love him. But I guess Callahan felt he might be a distraction or a person that he couldnt trust since he got the head coach job which many felt should have gone to Pellini. Anyways, to make matters worst for the Huskers, Oklahoma picked him up to be a co-Def Coordinator. This is not good news for the Nebraska faithful. Well, goes to show. You need to watch out who you walk over, because it could come back to bite you in the ASS! Callahan just doesnt fit and I just cannot see him succeeding at Nebraska. He is a someone who should coach at Texas or UCLA, not Nebraska. JMO. Aloha CC.

I would rate Nebraska being a talent-deficient state by a wide margin, as hinderance to the Huskers staying in the elite over Callahan as Coach, I would even put the re-emergence of Texas and OU as super-powers as 2nd largest obstacle(they were down when Dr.Tom had NU at it's pinnacle), more players are staying in-state nowadays, plus the rise of VT, Md, also Big East & ACC have kept the raids on NJ, NY, Penn, Iowa,etc..in check now.

Huskerfan better get used to 9-3 and 10-2..11-2, 12-1 & 13-0 aren't gonna be plentiful anytime soon.

I slightly disagree, football down there will always remain high class, just because of the environment out there. An alcoholic can coach them next year and they will still do fine. It's priority number one on most peoples charts.

That's why you see the LSU, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Tennessee, Kansas State programs at the top of the rankings most of the time. Just something about down south football in that area that we dont see from most other teams...

Aloha Bocabill,

Here is an email address that he can use to get information on who and where to send his tape.

uhftball@hawaii.edu

He can also go to the Official University of Hawaii website at www.uhathletics.hawaii.edu

-when at site scroll down to bottom link and click on football.
-Then click on Prospective Athlete Questionnaire , and have him fill the information form out.

This is the best way to get in touch with the proper people at the University. Use the email address at the top to get all his questions answered. Good Luck and Aloha CC.

I think Nebraska will be a little down next year because they don't quite have the right personnel to run the west coast offense right know. But I would say that Callahan has put together a very good coaching staff with some very good recruiters. I think they will be towards the top again in a couple of years.

Yes Nebraska as a state doesn't have as much talent as many states, but the Huskers do one of the best jobs of recruiting in the nation. They get players from numerous states. Look at Texas, they didn't get a single player out of state this year and lost the #1 QB and RB in Texas to Oklahoma.

As a NU fan I wish that they would have kept Pellini but they couldn't. Don't worry about him at OU. He will stay there for 1 year and move on to his own defensive coordinator or Head coach position the following year.

I think Callahan could become a great college coach, but we will have to wait and see.

callahan is installing the west coast offense and college teams that go to it struggle for awhile. look at notre dame. nebraska will win but they will be a poor ATS team for awhile.i hope true husker fans in nebraska are far removed from the goings on in the NFL for callahans sake. i wouldnt want this guy coming in my living room to recruit my son knowing his professional football team not only didnt respect him but quit a year after the superbowl.yeah charles woodsons a dick but husker fans dont know that.good luck huskers.

Them hiring Callahan as coach is the biggest joke since Notre Dame hired O'Leary.

This guy gave up at the first sign of adversity in Oakland.

What in his head coaching history is impressive? He took what amounted to Gruden's team to the Super Bowl, and then lost miserably to Gruden. Then he gets a few injuries and the team turns on him and basically cashes it in.

co-captain - I think you are right. Callahan is going to kill that team. They should have kept their coordinator Pellini.

It was Pelini's job, but he screwed up. Here are a few things that he did wrong.
1. Pederson asked him to apologize to Snyder. Pelini said no, and that he would do it again.
2. Pelini wore t-shirts and baseball hats to bowl press conferences. He repeatedly ignored Pederson's request to wear a sports coat and tie.
3. He was pulling a Barry Switzer, and drinking with players during bowl week.
4. His tirade with the officials against MSU.
All this happened in a few months, and he was to big of a gamble even if he was the popular choice.
Callahan has stolen a few recruits already, and hiring John Blake to help recruit is a big time hire. He is one reason Stoops was able to turn OU immediately into a power. He could bring in the talent, but he didn't get them conditioned and etc.
I also think Callahan is becoming more creditable every day. There is a reason nobody wants the Raiders job. Old players, shitty owner, and no respect for the head coach because everyone knows Al Davis runs everything.

Midwesterner - Interesting points. I didn't realize Pellini was so immature. It was probably wise not to hire Pellini then.

THE most important thing in college football now is recruiting and Callahan has put together a great staff of recruiters so far. Blake is an excellent recruiter and Callahan himself is very good. The coming staff additions will also need to be very good recruiters. I expect Nebraska to land a couple more big name recruits in the next couple of days. Sure there will be transition difficulties next year but Nebraska will be a very talented team, especially on the OL, DL and secondary. It will be an interesting offseason.
