Just recently I would have to say Afleet Alex was a way better closer.

I think some are leaving out the fact that Rachel had to Leave from the Far outside post ( 13 ) and was wide around the first turn.
Going a longer Distance. She had presure from #1 and it might even have taken a little bite out of her.

With Her kind of Speed, give her a Post of 3-9 next time and let's see how close they are to her coming home.
That is if she runs the same kind of Race today.

Rachel went 23 and 46.3 on a slow track, if you dont appreciate that, then you know nothing about horses..

He manages to get Zenyatta to the winners circle. That guy sucks :ohno:

Good Example... Zenyatta have the same running style.

Why to try get the rail?,,, You cant win a race by the same way... I own few horses at local track, this is the business, the owner buy the horse, the trainer do all before the horse enter the gate, and the jockey is the one in charge after leave the gate.

The jockey around the turn is on line 5 or 6, he have a bounch of horses in front, from his point there are two horses right and five or six on left, just take the horse to the outside and ride... the jockey knows that the horse its a closer, a big closer, HAVE TO FIND A CLEAR WAY to run away... no matter inside or outside... at that position, was better took the outside.... Did Smith wins with Zenyatta on the rail?....

Borel when passing horses in churchill, he is looking where to drive the horse, the desicion of him to take the horse to that small hole was instant, every second that you take for think, that second its equal a loss of 5 lengths. If he dont see that hole he took to the outside and still win the race maybe by one or two lenghts.

Finally Smith on the final furlong decide to run on the middle, when the race was over.

How a jockey think to try get the rail at 600mts to the finish.... only this one, Smith...

The Kentucky Derby also have a fast fractional times..., you will not find those time in muudy track at churchill on races of 10 fgs...

Rachel make her race.... took the lead and the inside post or close to the rail at the first turn due to her post position, and the patron of race is the tempo, manage speed as front runner and hold to the final,

Both the Kentucky Derby and The Preakness had very fast early fractions tiring all the pace setters except Rachel Alexandra and assisted Mind That Bird in his closing stretch runs.

The Belmont Stakes is 1 & 1/2 miles on a 1 & 1/2 mile track rather then a 1 mile track for both the Kentucky Derby and The Preakness. Belmont's racetrack has long sweeping turns. In the Belmont, there will be much slower early fractions as the race is a marathon. If Rachel Alexandra runs, she is likely to be able to take an easy lead and hold it the entire race without concern for Mind That Bird or any other closing finisher. That being said, I tend to agree at this point with G. Money. I'm not sure either horse will enter. If I had to choose, I would say Mind That Bird would be a more likely starter then Rachel Alexandra. Believe her career may be over as she is scheduled to be bred to Curlin. No sense taking any more chances with her. If she was going to be beat, it was today. She wasn't. Case closed and on to the breeding shed.

There is no guarantee that Mind That Bird will get fast fractions in the Belmont. In fact, considering the length of that race, the speed horses usually set slower than normal fractions to try and get the 1 1/2 mile distance. It doesn't make it easy on the closers.

There are different kinds of closers. There are sustained and one-paced closers who are at the mercy of the pace up front. There are push-button athletic closers. Mine the Bird is the latter.

The weight will be a big factor in favor to Rachel at Belmont.

Remember Rags to Riches?... won the belmont few years ago after 100 years not winned by a filly....

And the Belmont finished Rags to Riches. I hope Rachel Alexander doesn't run in the Belmont
