I highly doubt being gay is a preference. Can you tell me when you chose to be straight ? I dont ever remember getting up and saying I want to be straight today.

I do believe there is a difference between being bullied as a person of a different race and being gay. I was bullied and teased for being a different race in school (grade school, high school even college). I know I could always go home and I would be loved and accepted by my parents or friends. A gay kid is who is being bullied doesnt have the same options because they're in the closet. It was hard enough for me to tell my parents I got a "B" in any subject. I cant imagine how hard it is to come out to your parents or friends at such a early age.

Its hard enough growing up as a kid if you dont fit in. Now add bullying, trying to come out and no one to turn too. I think a fair person could say bullying is a main contributor in young gays taking their lives .

Very well said.

I will teach my Nephew to be nice to everyone and not to pick on onyone. But he will also be told to standup for himself. Now days we treat our kids like a bunch of sissies. Standup and blast them right in the face the second time it happens. Don't teach your kids to be pushed around. Teach them how to take care of themselves.

If I was at that point of killing myself I would have killed them first with a note telling the shit parents why thier kid is dead.

I agree with you on the parents need to start teaching the kids to stand up for themselves. I am relatively young and remember growing up when things got tough at school. I was taught to stand up for myself, and it seemed to work. No reason to cower in a hole somewhere and feel sorry for yourself. That goes with anything you do in life.

I am anti-gay, but this is a sad story and I feel for the boy and his family.

If the gay kid is in the closet then why is he being bullied? Unless the gay kid is flaming and it is obvious to his peers that he is gay I am pretty sure his parents and friends suspect he is gay too.

Bullies dont only pick on gay kids but pick on the easiest targets (nerdy and socially awkward or a different race ) . Can we agree kids sometimes do dumb things And sometimes do not know when to stop .

I will give you a first hand example. My cousin who I suspected was gay early on because he never would play sports w/ the guys and would instead sing showtunes and dress up barbies w/ the girls . As years go by I began to tell my sister and brother our cousin was gay and they could kind of see it but my mother and aunt absolutely said no way. When Myspace came out I found his hidden page and there was no doubt he was gay. I ended up showing this to my mother and she thought it was a just a phase . Eventually she told her sister and she thought it was a phase as well and thought there is no way my kid is gay and tried to basically change him . It was tough time for them. The Mom came around and a year or 2 the dad accepted it . So while its easy to say I see it and everyone else sees it . Parents are the last to know and either they're blinded or too naive to see it .
