run support.

the notion that baseball isnt a team game is ridiculous. even the most routine defensive plays over the course of the game require the entire team to be involved. any defensive weakness on a team will be exposed. any weakness in a lineup in a hotly contested series will be exposed. any weakness in a pitching staff as a whole during a hotly contested series will be exposed. baseball most often awards the most "complete" team, not the team with the biggest star. how is this even up for debate?

we are about to enter the 7 game series rounds, where a ROTATION of starting pitchers matters more than at any other part of the season. in the best of 5 round, a less deep rotation can get by. but in a best of 7, a team could have the greatest pitcher in the history of baseball as their ace, a guy who throws a no hitter every time he goes out, but that team still only wins 3 out of 7 games if the rest of their rotation blows.

Baseball caters to the individual statistics. Say an error is committed by in infielder and after that the pitcher just loses all concentration and gives up 5 runs. Baseball says well that is okay because your "teammate" fucked up and all of those pitches you threw after that were in vain. We will count them as unearned runs because after all the batter wouldn't have hit a homer if your teammate didn't fuck up.

Baseball even allows the hitter to keep his statistics clean if God forbid he puts his team in front of himself and bunts or hits a flyball to advance a runner. That's bullshit an out is an out. I don't see the NFL not counting a QB INT on a end of the half or game hail mary. Or not crediting INT's when it was the receiver's fault. I don't see basketball not counting it a real shot when a player heaves a ball up at the end of the quarter from across the court or when a players misses a free throw on purpose for clock management strategy.

Face it the 162 game regular season is just to showcase the individual talent over a long period of time to see who can up the best numbers. It is not designed to weed out the lesser teams from playing on in the post season. Nor is the regular designed to prepare the teams to succeed in the post season. A teams overall performance only reflects how good they are playing on any given homestand or road trip.
