I plan on running a 50 mile race in Nov, but it will be nowhere even close to a 6:40/ avg mile.

After that me and a couple buddys got plan to run a regular marathon in Febuary.

Are you doing the JFK 50? I'd rather stick needles in my eyes than run more than a marathon distance! I'm running the Philly Marathon in November. It'll be my 15th marathon....shooting for 2:55....or at least sub-3 hours.

Good luck w the 50! That's no easy feat!

Good post. People also seem to get confused in the weight room with how fast they think they need to complete repetitions. They fail to complete the repetition properly because they think they "have" to do 10 or 12 or whatever. It's all about control and doing it the right way to stimulate the muscle.

there's a lot of stupid, misinformed people in every gym you go to. proper form trumps all. strong concentric, slow eccentric. i'm amazed at how horrible most people's form is.

Exactly. People totally forget how important the eccentric movement really is. In a lot of exercises, it is more important than the concentric. Reason being why I like to spend 1 set concentrating on nothing but negatives.

the eccentric movement plays the primary role in tissue breakdown. THAT is where you build muscle.

of course coupling that with essential protein, aminos, vitamins, etc for rebuilding. people tend to go WAY overboard on the protein though. a good way to damage your kidneys and increase creatinine levels.

You said "for a man it doesn't seem like very much", and I'm telling you 1.5x lifted over a man's head is ALOT, and not alot of people are doing it, even those working out alot. Better?

Not a lot of people can score five points in an NBA game, even those who play the game a lot. Doesn't mean the guys who do that are scoring a lot of points

(though 300-pounds overhead is a close equivalent to doing OK in a WNBA game)

No. It actually a race in my hometown in Florida. Actually if you want to you can run up to 100 miles. basically you get to pick the distance. you can either do 25, 50, 75 or 100 miles. me and a buddy are trying to do 50. but here is the thing, its not really like a marathon. You get 32 hours to complete the race if needed. So its not like i'm going out and just running 50 miles. No way in hell could i do that. I plan on running say 15 miles then walking for a bit, maybe rest for a while in there and then start running again. But it is through the local state wildlife preserve so its all over trails basically, not on roads. It will be interesting for sure.
Then we plan on doing a traditional marathon in Febuary.

Hello,

I have seen a number of losing wieght, getting in better shape threads...how bout this one? I come in around 205 and have a max bench of 315lbs. (six 45's on an olympis bar.) I have lifted my entire life and other than beer have lived a some what healthy lifestyle. I'm wondering what you cats have for similiar strenght levels. I turn 40 in November.

Do you beat your chest when you walk into a room ?

Been lifting a lot lately lots of new stuff learning through school and taking PT certs and my kinesiology degree but weight 220 bench around 325max I had a brutal shoulder injury a few years back where only now am i pain free on most every lift and recovery. Always had strong legs though got to 400 tonight on squat rack no one i know even lifts legs anymore but it is hilarious to see a lot of these meatheads in there looking unbelievably disproportionate.

On a side note up until 5 months ago I never took any sort of supplement, protein, etc but started using white flood a pre workout( no creatine tried that for two weeks and it screwed me up) and its a huge help keeps me focused and gives a good pump.

Anybody here on or been on the juice?

In college my roomate was (moody as fuck while on it too). He also broke a huge blood vessel from the top of his foreheard all the way down to his nose once while lifting, not a good look.

Always tried to get me to try it, I never would/did. But he gained a shit ton while on it, both strength and muscle. Unreal how quickly too
