Hypothetically- you always get the best line and always bet 1 unit, sharp enough?

Will this make you sharp enough to turn profit regularly?

Who can sit around all day and shop for the very best lines though? You would have to have unlimited free time and not much else to do?

I think the mud is to deep with to many hands now. Those who get their hands closer to the gold obviously have the best chance. One has to get closer to the guy who places the gold in the mud.

Just hitting 53+% is all I want.

Best line is whatever looks good enough when it's time to hit 'submit'

If I see a basketball line of -2' nagging at me, I'll play -130\-135 on the moneyline.

Speaking of gold, that was quite a nugget. True words of wisdom spoken by a man who's been there, done that, and got 40 T-shirts and counting.

Playing at the best price will save money in the long run, but you must catch winners, or it's all meaningless.

53% winners at the right prices translates into making a living.

Easier said than done.

If one goes 47% at the right prices/pointspreads, you will most likely lose money, but still less than you would have at other odds.

It don't mean a thing, if you ain't got that winning swing!

Great starting point & safest approach, but you will need to have bet size variation, unless you plan to work forever and grind, as from what Ive seen, the majority of the best in the industry golf, play cards, or do lunch, due to winning big during stretches where they took positions or increased size or volume during the prime of their careers & in-form..nothing gained/nothing ventured?

Playing solo units will need major board action/volume or multi-dime play size by someone to escape this industry one day, otherwise it will be like any other day job, as this isn't a grind industry for the majority, it's a burnout industry primarily..few mine gold longterm..most need to get in and get out eventually if they plan on beating it.

As mentioned by many here for the past 4 years, anyone that works this for a successful living over twenty years will all tell you they were smart enough to have done many other things if they only tried, and would've lived a better balanced & happy life in other fields..irregardless of financial success.

There is always so much talk here and other sites over getting the virgin and/or best numbers, and in a utopian world that would be dreamy, but in the real world we are all followers or scavengers behind the 20 to 50 biggest that primarily move/shape/drive/rule this industry.

The key to winning more so than playing the best numbers is picking winners foremost, and in having a great feel for or knowing where the cutoff/parameters for most games lies, as only one or a few are going to get the first hit on certain games..the followers must know if there is room for them after the hit(s)..or whether to pass.

Semi-sharps and the ever growing educated betting masses can play overnights to beat the moves, as they generally can fill up at nickel limits. As even many Vegas early-cappers & pros have worked the evening shifts shopping at Dust, Bally's, etc..for years playing NBA & MLB overnight nickels for years, then some graduate from such work, as it isn't worthy of their bother?

Most gamblers are better off following the drift primarily at lesser numbers, even if bitten sometimes at bad numbers, as long as they can follow good stuff. Hey, if you can't be a majorette, then get in line..at least you get to join the parade!

Being able to pick your own winners is very important, but not paramount, as many of the wealthiest & winning smarts in the gambling world can't cap, but know the market and how to win, and are networked/connected to the shakers, meanwhile many of the best cappers and bettors of the same circles do well but often no better..some even do worse proportionately!

The "best of the best" in this industry not only consist of the best bettors, cappers, movers, BMs,etc..but are also "in the know" & get the word of each other's actions via the grapevine.

And a great thread has disappeared of late from the RX Archives(too old?), it was 09.23.01 "WHO ARE THE 20 MOST INFLUENTIAL SPORTS BETTORS TODAY?" by Stephen Nover..BW, BB, Tiger, Blackie, Spiros, PJF, RK, HH..Wish I would've printed it when rereading it a week ago after using search button..that thread is a "who's whom" of what makes the DB screen pop.

Good question Jman. Highly recommend that one gets the best number always and that one tries to save as much vig as possible also.
