iphone 4...while the EVO 4G looks fantastic, I've had the iphone 3G for 2 years now and couldn't imagine my life without it. I use it probably 5% for actual phone & 95% pandora/slacker, weather, calculator, texting, youtube, scheduling/calender, notes section (fantastic for my English class when ideas pop up at random time), ESPN score tracker, and games.

haven't you started this stupid thread before??

NO......now your remark is stupid. I started a thread about the EVO before the iphone 4 was announced.Next time check yourself so you don't come across as ignorant.

You can do all that on the Evo. Oh, and you can keep a phone call too! :) But I can understand having it for 2 years you know all the ins and outs and whatnot which you'd have to somewhat relearn with a new phone. There's something to be said for familiarity.

The EVO has a larger screen, is much faster, is available with cheaper plans and the open-source background allows for customization and lots of future growth. The iPhone only lets you do whatever Steve Jobs says you can do and drops its signal if you hold it with your left hand.

Of course some people don't care...

The Evo 4g can do all of that + bigger screen + better camera + no IPhone4 death grip (i.e. when you hold it by the bottom end it loses signal)

iphone wins for quality of apps and "future-proofness" - one big problem /w android phones is that the carriers lose interest in updating them as new phones roll out... for instance, the g1 was released in October of 2008 and already, less than 2 years into it's life it has been cut from the phones that will receive new version of android.

I have an android phone at the moment - and am happy enough with it, but I still like the iphone more (was an owner of the original iphone). That being said, when I buy a new phone I'll be going back to a N900 because I think Maemo is the coolest OS out there.

The iPhone leads in that area now, but it's losing ground very fast. Android apps are open-source while Apple tightly controls everything. In the long run, open source leads to far more innovations than closed platforms. See Firefox vs. Explorer as a good example. Couple that with Android phones' built-in integration with all the Google tools, and I think that'll be the leader in a two or three years.

maybe, maybe not. There have been open-source operating systems for years, and I doubt anyone would tout them as having the highest quality apps (at least, not all-around). Maemo is open-source, and while I love the OS, it certainly doesn't have the highest quality apps. I'm not disagreeing, just saying we'll have to wait and see.

That's a good point. Open-source systems have to reach a sort of critical mass before they have wide enough acceptance to foster innovation and spur future growth. OpenOffice, for example, has been around a long time but is only recently beginning to be widely used enough that improvements are becoming really noticeable. With the 900-pound gorilla of Google backing Android, I like their chances.
