I'll redirect my question to anyone in here who thinks Stern should be taken off the air because of his possible influence on minor age listeners....Why do you allow your kids to listen to Stern?

Oh, the 'homos' petitioning to get Laura Schlessinger were an example of market forces speaking out against a show they didn't like...a good example of free speech in action.

In Stern's case, it's the government doing the muzzling, which is regrettable.

Exactly right on barman. It's the government that needs to get out of the speech-deciding business. I think half of the Constitution was written with the thought of an Administration like the current one in mind. It's the founders worst fears being realized.

I hate Howard Stern and think that he is a worthless use to society. I cannot believe anybody could make fun of handicapped people and I think he uses women that are missing in the brains dept. Howard is just a plain piece of crap. His show is trash as is he.

After that being said. I NEVER listen to his show and never will. He should not be taken off the air. If you don't like him do what I do and never turn on his piece of crap show. He has every right to be on the air. I don't have to listen to him and do not. He is crap in my book, but others may like him. Why should I have the power to take him off the air. What if the gov does not like what I listen to? Keep him on the air and I will make my own choice. I don't need the gov to tell me that he is a piece of trash.

you nailed it sir.

Funny but nobody here knows ANYTHING about the Howard Stern Experience. If Howard were to get booted by the FCC it would be a sad day for all who believe in freedom and expression. Maybe we could get a couple of staff members from Howard's show to contribute to the forum with their opinions?

OMG, LOL

YOU people truly think Howard Stern is the problem?

Let's put the blame where it belongs, with the parents!

I'am soooooo sick of everyone blaming the media for THEIR childrens bad upbringing..

THE PARENTS in todays society are a disgrace. The problem with todays kids is WAY to many of them are "leading by example" (following in their parents shoes)

How many times have you heard "WHAT? My Joey would never say that word, guess where their child got it from?

Think about it...

If you bring your child up to the best of your ability AND LEAD BY EXAMPLE, then you can start blaming others for your problems...

IT'S WAY TO EASY TO BLAME OTHERS BEFORE YOU HAVE PUT FORTH AN EFFORT..

I just heard today during the 911 hearings that Attorney General Ashcroft seemed disinterested when told about Bin Laden determined to strike inside U.S.A. Ashcroft was too busy going after Howard Stern. Don't forget to vote these religious nuts out of office come Nov.

My son is 2 and does not listen to Stern, so your question is uninformed and irrelevant. That said, how do you expect the rest of America's parent to stop their kids from tunning their walkman's into K-Rock (or whatever Stern affiliate is broadcasting)?

Public radio waves are bit harder to monitor than HBO, no?

what possible difference does it make if howard stern is of the air completely? i have nothing against him and have listen to him on many occasions but he is makes absolutely and i mean zero contribution to society or even radio. he is completely irrelevant in the grand scheme of things.

Sorry Lander, per your earlier comments I incorrectly surmised you had kids who might be listening to Stern.

In response to your question, there is no way for parents to prevent their kids from listening to, viewing, or ingesting anything IF THE KID WANTS TO DO IT.

Thus the parent's responsibility (Speaking very humbly mindy you...I've raised three) is to accurately educate their kids as to what they, the parents, feel is important and appropriate.

Then be prepared to deal with their own emotions depending on whether their kids choose to honor the parents' example, or to ignore it.

The issue is not Stern, or any other form of media. The issue is honest communication between parents and kids and a mature acknowledgement by parents that their kids may at some point choose of their own free will to ignore parental counsel.

Barman,
While your suggestions make for a blissful theory, the bitter reality is that while parental guidance plays a huge role is setting a child's being - they are not the only influence.

Lander I don't disagree whatsoever. There are countless influences on young people (read - teens, in the context of possible Stern listeners) besides their parents.

What I'm simply highlighting is that we must allow for personal responsibility, even for teens. If a teen receives counsel from parents and even many others, that Stern (for example) is a bad thing to listen to, and then the teen elects to listen anyway, it's not Stern who is the one that should be punished or censored.

The said teen chose of their own free will to listen and any criticism should be leveled directly at the teen's choice.

Thus, as your now 2-year old matures in coming years, he or she might well make choices (such as listening to dorks like Stern) you don't approve of. At that time, you can choose to lash out at Stern or you can respect the free choice made by your offspring.

In other words, it's not 'society's responsibility to make choices for young people. All we can do is teach and live by example. And then we must be ready to live with whatever choices they make, or else we spend a lot of time disabled while we try and 'fight' those choices we don't like.
