Step 1

read the sports forums carefully for a few months. Read every daily thread & see who is respected in the threads & see who isn't. Notice how many views a capper gets. notice if they post their own record clear for you to see without too much hype. After a while you will get a pretty good handle of who is good, in what sport & who continues to post their record without fear.

Step II
Open up approximately 5 offshore accounts, 365, pinny, skybook, iis (lay 105) shops that offer reduiced juice & free 1/2 point days...shops that offer reasoanble re-up bonuses perhaps.

Step III
Every day do a concensus report...write it down or type it into an excell sheet. See who is on what game...check for good analysis. Try to watch for who is hot or not. Write down about 10 - 25 games & THEIR POINTSPREAD that look good based on the cappers that you trust.

STEP IV
wait till right before game time...some games the line will have gotten worse, some it will have stayed the same...some it would have gotten better....Disregard all wagers where the line is worse or the same...BET only the games where the line moved in your favor. Shop for best available line of course.

Step V

Maintain discipline...only bet 1% of bankroll per play & adjust your bet as your bankroll goes up or down by 20%

THINGS THAT ARE IN YOUR FAVOR....

-Solid Cappers at your service
-Line movements in favor of your solidally capped games.
-5 books to shop lines at (Best possile line)
-Bonuses such as reduced juice or re-load bonuses.

This is precisely why I wager 93% of my games right before gametime........you will almost always gauaantee yourself the best possible number in the world if you have ten or more outs!!

It pays the bills.

Great Write up!!!

I have learned alot since I started on this site, but the one that always gets me is my money management. i will deposit $100 on Friday and will play $25-50 wagers. I have good luck at this but never really see a big payoff since I will generally get my $ to $200-300 and withdraw before I lose it. I play halves and not alot of full games. I started this 6 months ago and have never had a losing month, but I want to reach that next level. Just need to learn money management.

Mac...this business can be very humbling...the earlier you learn to deal with that the better...If you are serious about trying to make some scratch you have to be prepared to be bored very often...Most gamblers are looking for a quick high, like drug users, which is why they fail most often.

My suggestion is take your 100$ & save it for several weeks till you have 1000$

Once you have your 1000$ deposit into 3 books.
Pinny--a must & 2 others...iis (lay 105) perhaps (although i do not know much about their financial state) & perhaps a skybook...(free 1/2 point).

Serious gamblers usually play between 1 - 3% of bankroll for each play...in your case 1% is 10$ 3% is 30$. I know it is boring but dont worry...DISCIPLINE is the key...Ask each & every person on this forum.

Do your own capping or use the above formula to get good games to play....

rank them 1* to 3* & start playing....
If your bankroll gets to 1200$ then adjust your Bets to 12$ to 36$
If your bankroll goes to 800$ then lower your bets from 8$ to 24$.

This requires incredible disciplne...let me tell you I have been betting for 14 years & am still reckless with my betting with no where near the discipline to follow what ai have written above...funny thing is I know how to make money at this game...just too greedy & undisciplemd to put it into practice most of the time.

Good luck Max. Once you do obtain the discipline to use good MM, then you become a much better player immediately.

Money Management by RX Poster OldmanTed:

Decided to write this thread as there seems to be a significant interest in this subject and it can be used as a supplement to the thread started by augs15 which addresses the beginner or lower level player. The intention is to provide thoughts as a player advances with experience. So with that in mind let me begin.

To start, I am going to provide the readers with a sample of a complete football season from preseason through the superbowl. The intention is to show that even with a modest win percentage, one can end up with a significant overall return on their starting bankroll without making an exceptionally large wager. So let's begin.

We will start with the bankroll. For simplicity, I will assume that posters make an assignment that 1 unit equals $100. The 1 unit should equal 1% of the bankroll. Therefore, a player at this level should be starting with a bankroll of $10,000. My example will use these as the basis. I will also use a varying wagering style wherein a player will rate his wagers from 1 to 5 units or 1% to 5% respectively. Futhermore, the amount of the wager will vary as the bankroll varies. Thus, as it increases, so does the wager and as it decreases so does the wager but with one guideline. The unit value stays constant until the bankroll increases or decreases in 20% increments. Thus, 1 unit remains at $100 until the bankroll reaches $12,000 or $8,000. This allows for a period of relatively consistent levels for a longer period of time until the bankroll is significantly changed either up or down.

Now that these parameters are in place, let me show you the results of my entire 2002 football season. You will note that I achieved an overall 94.10% return while only winning 55.15% of my wagers, which is an average season and not particularly outstanding, but very much within the capabilities of a decent handicapper. So here it is beginning with the entire year summary followed by individual sub-seasons that make up the total season.

SS,

This is no doubt one of the best threads ever on the RX!

Your "way with words" is most impressive.

If you boil this all down, what works is...

Find the most frequent "agreed to" picks. No matter who posts them if they are "popular" they go on your list.

Late movement in your favor indicates lots of late action opposite your play.

These plays are MONEY!!!!!

Ever seen the movie "Let It Ride".
Follow this and you too can have a "very good day"!!

PS The reason I mention "way with words" is because reading between the lines tells you this...

Which I will post directly...

Vast majority of posts on here are from "wannbe" players who are full of crap and posting monopoly plays.

The few serious players who take time to post are to be commended. You know who you are!

I bet anywhere from .004% to .02% per game - are you telling me this is too small? - on a 30 dimes roll some plays will be 600 - anyone betting 5% or 10% is a loser unless it is for a very limited amount of plays - don't waste your time telling me elsewise.

everything is relative...the more someone's bankroll grows the more one is interested in protecting it...so % of bankroll should go up & down dependent on how much risk one wants to assume....

you woudnt advise someone with a 1000$ bankroll to play between .004% to .02% per game would you?

Good thread.

What are the pros or cons of adjusting your 1% of bankroll bet daily to dynamically reflect your current BR?

The sports forums are imo the best on the WWW. All the Mods work hard to keep them free of flaming and needless namecalling. Right now I know that the college basketball forum has several cappers that are red hot. Great stuff to be had in all the forums.
