How passionate are you in handicapping one sport?

For me, it's college football.

I have extensive data and in the off season, I study game outcomes and previous performances in particular team roles.

This coming year, I plan to add box scores and game summaries to my repertoire.

Suffice it to say, there is an awful lot of record keeping involved.

It's not an easy thing to do, but I'd like to think I've learned a little by doing so.

Being passionate definitely helps make certain sports feel less like a chore to work, as I prefer college foots & hoops also, but MLB(a bore to watch) is a value sport, and the NHL playoffs are always good.

The NBA is the one sport that I just can't stomach today, and pick spots to get involved(mostly playoffs), as I have watched only around 35 games since '00 Western Conference Finals.

Always stick to your area of expertise first and foremost, then branch out slowly, and piggyback if you must.

GL NL, I look forward to your work this fall, Foots can never get here fast enough!

Horseshoe,

Since we both focus on college football (and cbb), do you consider yourself a fundamental handicapper, statistical or situational?

I'm a situational handicapper, only because it allows me to handicap the greatest amount of games in the least amount of time. But I think fundamental handicapping gives you the best possible analysis.

im a hardcore college football capper and nfl too tho i dont devote so much time to that as i do cfb. i stay away from listening too much to what friends think and sports talk radio will kill you as much as greed can. i never listen to player/coach interviews and changing your mind is a cardinal sin. i believe 100% in trends, systems and angles knowing the better team doesnt always win and motivation is the key behind any cover.im forever looking for the website that will give me the hidden edge. like say a team is breaking out new uniforms on gameday it may be a source of firing a team up. but how can i as a joe q public fan find that out except on gameday as a telecast is getting underway? i cant wait till august!

For the past 2 1/2 years I've enjoyed Hockey and MLB more than others because I enjoy watching those sports the most.

Basketball is strictly actuarial and football is more of a social exercise that I only expose 1/2 size Units.

In any case, fully capping a single sport for extended period (several weeks or more) takes 2+ hours a day per sport, so focus is important.

Learned long ago that passion is just another part of the game.
When one learns to except what they are good at, and stick to it, it even gets better.
Have also learned to stick to ONE Conference in college football.
