Too much.
People that Eat Out more will spend more.
Almost 3 months ago, I put my fat ass on a diet and eat about 1000 calories a day and never over 1200. Since I started that, I would say I spend about $100 a week, maybe $120. I live by myself right now and work from home, so I Never eat out anymore. Still drink 12-15 diet cokes a day after I force down 2 gallons of water and when you figure in coffee, I am probably spending another $50 or so a week on beverages.
I think that is a myth but I guess it would depend on your definition of eating out, if it's a sit down dinner sure but if you're talking drive thru then you're spending less.
Example- for lunch this week I pretty much had the same thing last 3 days, Salad (3 for $10) Peach ( $2.00 a lb) bag of carrots (4 pack $2.50) and two waters (24 pack $5) all from the grocery store and that comes out to about a $5.75 packed lunch.
Most fast food chains have a 99cent menu and the items are filling, a chicken roll and green burrito at Taco Bell is very filling and cost you 2 bucks, add a drink (that's where they get you) for $1.50 and it's a you have me beat by $2.25
Do that for all 3 meals and you're actually Saving $7.75 a day by eating out or $56.25 a week
Had a very good meal at the Olive Garden Thursday night with the wife and it came to $35 and my wife's pasta dish came with a Free pasta dish off the menu and I had a tall beer with my salmon and veggies......and let's not forget the never ending bread sticks
Try making that at home and you're spending $50......once again, I think it's a myth that you spend less by cooking at home or packing your lunch
