How much would you say is too much money to have in a book?

I have an account with a book with which I've done pretty well. So well, in fact, that I've just cracked the five-digit mark...the largest amount of $ I've ever had in an offshore account.

I've never had problems withdrawing from this book in the past -- the CS is great and the withdrawals are quick. I just wonder if I'm playing with fire...and I don't mean that I'm worried my luck may run out and I lose all the cash I've so arduously built up. Instead, I'm worried that my sum may be too big for the book to handle, and that now that I've done well, they'll take the cash back, bar me from playing or find some reason to gip me.

Is this a legitimate fear? Or am I just being haughty in thinking that that amount is more than a book can bear?

Any thoughts are appreciated.

depends on the book. some 5 figures is no worry, others its definitely time to withdraw. in part it also depends on you, what do you want to do with it? do you want it to be your bankroll for the football season? or do you want to buy a night with a pornstar?

5 figures is no sweat for the big books, go to http://sportbookreview.com/recommended.htm and if your book is on that list don't worry.

5 figures used to be no problem for sportsbooks like GoToCasino, Gamblerspalace, Rosies Chalk Island, and many others that have since either gone out of business or run into trouble in the case of the first two I listed. Because of increased uncertainty in Costa Rica I would recommend getting a payout from mid-size outs there once your balance approaches 5 figures.

And if the sportsbook is small, including some that have advertised here like defunct Parlaycard, Goliath, etc., you would be well advised to keep under $1K even before you hear about problems.

How much is safe to have in an offshore account?
Answer: Depends on the book.Any solid book you should be able to keep 5 figures. A solid english or australian that uses escrow accounts would be my pick for high five figures and larger. If it is a book that there are mixed feelings about or is new, the answer is simple about as much that you could get stiffed for and not bein hot water. Do your homework on the book first then decide.

dogs24,

If you would awake in the morning and be deeply saddened/depressed over that money not being available, then take a percentage out and keep in there what you can afford to lose.

Good luck

I think it depends on the book and the person who has the money in the account

for every situation it is different

I know this doesn't help much..

The most I've ever had in one book was WWTS, got up to about 45 dimes one weekend last fall.

I've had over 30 dimes in Oly, CRIS and william hill at different points in time, never sweated getting paid.

"Offshore" is not a monolith... Some books may crumble but "Offshore" would not fall.

Spread your $$$ around:

WWTS

I think the most I have had at one spot was $30K at William Hill, followed by about $20K at Olympic and $20K at 5 Dimes..

With the top-notch shops, it's not their honesty or financial stability that I'm concerned with. I'm much more worried that a computer glitch or a hacker will wipe out my account.

Me too but I usually let them keep the change.

Stick with solid books and STILL continue to monitor things closely and don't get lazy. Sorry boys but when you are dealing with your money no one else will look after it like you will. If you don't put forth much effort no one else will either.

Thank you all for your responses.

This book is listed on the RX's "pays great" list, but it wasn't mentioned among any of the books that you guys listed as being solid outs.

Truthfully, I'd like to take it all out, but I'm a little wary for tax purposes of pulling such a large sum directly into my bank account.

Some of the big books are taking 5 figure bets!

To answer your question it depends what book you have your money in. In the solid shops, 6 figures is just a decent halftime rake.
