It's way too high but there isn't anything you can really do about it except bend over and smile. Regular unleaded here is around $2.15 a gallon. There is one thing that could work. If everyone just cancelled their auto insurance in protest, you can bet gas prices would go down. It would have to be done on a huge scale to make it effective.

Don't do that Bob in Nevada. Those DMV people will find out instantly. I had an inquiry about my insurance covering a period of 3 days. I changed carriers and I got a temporary form filled out on a Thursday and then the regular policy got sent in on Monday, while my old policy expired on the Thursday. That 3 day period appeared to be "not covered" to the state because the insurance company stated I was covered from Monday on. Now mind you I get this notice almost 2 years after the fact! Do you keep temporary papers around 2 years? If I didn't get the insurer to write a letter backing up my temporary policy the state was going to fine me something like $665! Just a word of caution...

No need to worry about gas prices. They will not go higher than an average of about 2.25/gallon.

This is one of the few things the gov cannot give a hand out to. They can give welfare, food stamps, ect, but they can not give out a gas welfare check.

I have never worried about gas prices as the gov is in total control of them if they want to pull the right strings. If the gov could figure out a way to make the rich pay more for gas while letting the poor pay little or nothing they would, but since they can not just sit back and take it easy.

I mean face it are those that make 225,000.00/yr caring about gas prices?, but those making 20,000.00/yr are very worried and their is no way to tell the difference so just don't worry.

BAR: Why would such an action force gas prices to go down?

It would seem to me the best way to reduce the amount you pay for gas, try driving buying less gas. The two ways to assure that are to drive less and/or to use a more fuel-efficient vehicle.

Gas prices plus all of the other sh.t going on out there can't be good for Bush's re-election aspirations.

WildBill- You're right that the idiots here that run the DMV are less stupid than they used to be but there's still a loophole to beat that "lapse" that you were talking about. You go to the DMV and get what's called a "non-operational agreement". You fill in the dates that the DMV claims you had no insurance and then you take a friend to lunch and they sign the paper along with you saying that the vehicle was not being operated during the "lapse" period. You take it to one of those mailbox places and have it notarized. You bring it back to the DMV and pay the $50 reinstatement fee for the registration that they probably cancelled and you're all set.

The non-operational agreement is just a bullshit form that you're using to tell the DMV that you're vehicle was broken down (wink, wink) during the "lapse" period and you couldn't have possibly driven it so therefore you weren't driving without insurance.

I'm not advocating driving without insurance but life is a gamble and you have to think of the odds of getting caught and the possible consequences versus the money you save by not buying an overpriced product. In this case, auto insurance. You take chances when you fly on an airplane, make a bet, get on a roller coaster, bang a chick without a raincoat or countless other activities. A person just has to choose how much risk they want to take at any given time in any given circumstance.

thanks for the site, dave - i'll be in town next weekend so i'll have to check that out.

here in so cal - the station by me sells for about $2.05ish.

i don't worry too much about gas prices since i mystery shop for a company that has a gas station as its client.

i can do 6 stations a month. i get reimbursed $5 for gas, $1 for an instore purchase and i get paid $7 for each station i mystery shop. i have been doing this for about 18 months and i am grateful for it!

Half the people in Detroit do this and the rest of the state got their insurance raised $100/6 months to help insure them.

One US gallon=3.785 liter. One liter cost here about 1.05-1.15 Euros, so a gallon is about 4.15 Euros.

With one euro you would get $1.18.

Tuley,
does the 1.99 at the Carey mart take into account, you'll probably have to purchase a bulletproof vest before you get out and pump? Carey and MLK, nice neighborhood. I can see somebody driving out there to save 10 cents a gallon, yeah right.

How bout these morons that sit in line for an hour to get gas at a 40 cent a gallon discount.

They waste two gallons by waiting in line for an hour.

That always cracked me up.
