Or, like a guy I knew, NOT a friend. He opened locally on "air", no tie, family, job, hoping he'd hit the 1st wk, as luck would have it, he did. And ran a "book" for a lot of yrs. If he'd lost I gues he was prepared "to go south"!

Back about 25 years ago, two friends went and rented an Apt. got like 2 phone lines and Opened up shop with $20K

Problem was, they just took anyone. It was during College Baskets.... They got Rocked the First week, for over $50K

They Paid, but Closed shop ! @)

i think u can start it with 100K.. but u definitely cant take on more than 500 customers with that much to be safe off the get go.

What are you going to do when someone hits a 10 teamer? or 3 Royals for 50K, there goes half your bank

you guys are forgetting software , employees , office space , advertising .

No point in leasing software or office space unless you have a huge player base to start with, these days its just too easy to put your players into a solid pph shop.

This of course was the Answer i was looking for. But Didn't want it to come from someone in that business.

But Yes.... The Best way right now would be a PPH

Why don't we ask bookiereport how much it cost him to start up....he has to be using pph if he has halftime needs and what have you, right?

LMFAO, and where are you going to get this paltry sum of 500 players?. In the post up world this would cost you approximately 200k in advertising. If you had 500 every day bettors and you weeded out those with a brain you COULD NEVER have a losing month.

As a local be prepared to adjust and have tons of local team action. Last football season, after 20+ yrs of profitable booking, my guy got drained. Badgers and Packers every week, and they hit. The more they hit, the higher the plays. In the end my guy paid, but seriously thinking of not opening shop any time soon.

Yeah that is a big problem. Same people bet the same stuff especially if your a regional bookie.

Imagine being a bookie in the Boston area around '07-08? Sox win the world series, Pats go 18-1 and Celts win their first title in 22 years. I don't know any local bookies really but I'm guessing more than a few got lit up during that period.
