$65 to pay for the license at the justice of the peace.

Same here. Was with my wife 10 years with 3 kids before we even did it, as it is against my beliefs. But it made her happy.

To you guys spending 50-100K, do you just pull that kind of money out of you bank account like nothing, or do you go into debt to pay for your weddings?

Yeah, me too. And she insisted on paying.

Now she tells everyone "I paid for our whole wedding myself".

wedding are expensive, but also, they're a time suck. Who wants to talk with all these morons trying to sell you a $3000 cake or their services to plug in their iPod on your "special day" for $2000?

I spent 35,000. my wife is from Rapid city SD. and if you havent been there your missing out,, its beautiful. we invited all our families to come there and we paid for entry into parks/all entertainment, so we made it into a Chevy chase family vacation/ wedding for everyone.

we rented 2 large busses to shuffle everyone around, Mount rushmore, Golf, bear country safari, Deadwood, her uncles 300 acre horse farm for the services,, (this part was cheap obviously,) 100 people attended,, wasent too expensive as family helped make food.

Great Wedding, and worth every penny, having my family see that part of the world.

It does not matter how much you spend at the wedding, the most important is to keep this relationship as it is at the beginning. Once you decide to get married you need to take this obligation and to earn some money for wedding not to wait her father to pay for it.

I paid nothing but curious as to what the father in law had to pay as I know the bar tab alone was a pretty penny and we had around 300 people at the wedding.

The rehearsal dinner we had around 30-40 people at a nice Italian restaurant, I don't even want to guess what that came to.

Congrats and good luck OP

I think it's absolutely insane the amount of money people spend on a wedding. I got married later in life (35 years old) so we kind of paid for it ourselves and my mom wanted to pitch in. Even still we probably spent 4-5k. Whats more is most people that came to the wedding said it was one of the best they've ever attended. Basically I live on the east coast of Florida so we simply got married on the beach and as soon as the wedding itself was over us and roughly 30-40 other people boarded a cruise ship for a 3 day cruise to the Bahamas. Only things that really had any real cost to us was the cake and the photographer. Even our cruise was free because so many other people booked under our deal. The people that did pay the cruise was only like $300 per couple and then it was a 3 day party not just a 1 night party.

in total we spent about 30k which we paid for ourselves. while it was a huge expense and many consider it a waste of money my extended family really only ever sees each other at weddings or funerals--both are too expensive for what they are. 150 person wedding for us at the beach, which is our home but for many people would be considered a destination wedding.

Weddings are the biggest waste of money. Go to city hall. Take the money and redo your kitchen. The woman who "NEEDS" the wedding is the one you "run" from. The woman who says "city hall works for me" I would rather have the new kitchen. She is the Winner.

Word of advice for the young bucks- Marriage is over rated. kth)(&^
