It is just about impossible to wager on sports for a living, will never be more than a handful that could ever do it.....but let's say someone had a modest goal of winning 25k per calendar year wagering on sports. Forget needing discipline, hitting 53% or more, etc....just talking about bank roll.....what would you say someone needs as a starting bankroll to have a shot at 25k a year?

You would also need a book that would not cut you off if you just kept winning. Bookmaker?

25,000 isn't modest if you consider how difficult it is to just be in the green period. I do better with a bigger bank roll. I have money to hedge. I have money to put down a 2nd half wager or in live play to double up on a winning wager or see a middling opportunity or just psychologically knowing I have big pot to play with like in poker even if I'm not betting big. Gives me confidence.

To answer you question,I'd say at least 10,000 and that's stretching it. You'd have to be pretty good. 10,000 would be the absolute minimum.

I completely understand having a bigger bank roll creating confidence. 10k to win 25k seems VERY low to me

There is no answer because there is no uniform betting strategy that would be employed to reach the goal.

yes kingeleven 10k is very very low and you'd have to be very very good at sportsbetting. I'd say closer to 50,000. But the juice would eat away at you.

It's very interesting the mindset of us gamblers. It seems so easy to us that we can make a lot of money betting. Then if we don't we justify it thinking or tough beat or just a bad run. So we continue to bet. We win and we say oh I can do this! We never say, oh it's just a good run lol.

sure, but there has to be a bottom line #, no? I mean, we would agree $200 ain't gonna get it done.

Betting 2,000 games per year with a 2% edge at full Kelly, you would need to start with about $15,000 to earn $25,000 (actually $16,883 if you never adjusted your bet size until the end of the year; I'm, not going to try to figure out the log formula other than just estimating from there)

Betting 1,000 games per year with a 1% edge at 0.5 Kelly you would need to start with about $260,202 to earn $25,000 in the first year (again, only if you never adjust your bet size with a growing bankroll; guess it would be around $220,000 if you use the logarithm on your calculator to come up with an exact number)

Meaning Bookmaker legit takes action no matter what you win they'd never cut the player off.

It would depend how many games you were betting, bet sizing, how you were dealing with variance, etc

The question is just too open-ended. Not sure what kind of answer you are looking for.

The answer could be 20k, it could be 300k.

If you want to make 25k/yr then you need to know how many units you can win in a year. I get 30 from MLB, 10 from NFL, 20 from NBA, 10 from NCAAB. There are a few extra units from College bowls, March madness. So lets just say 70 units over the course of the year at $400/game gets you past 25k. You would need 20 bets to get it started. I don't think you need more than 15 bets but 20 to start is good enough. Once you get past the 1st sport you are working on profit so you won't need the starting bankroll anymore.
