I started going to vegas and was gambling before I was 21. The old Military ID's had the birthday on the back and rarely did anyone check it too closely, the one time some one did, I played dumb and said I thought it was 18 to gamble. Placed my first sports bet about 8 years ago. I always gambled on Black Jack and never thought about betting sports, I wasn't even a sports fan really until I started gambling on it. Been seriously betting sports for about five years. In the five years I've been in Reno, I've never yet picked a winner in the superbowl 0-5. Could this be the year, I finally get the Superbowl right????

Hit an 8-teamer on a parlay card (tip sheet) in my first year of college in '93!

Bet $2 to win $90 or something like that.

The rest as they say is history.

Ever since pops showed me one of those parlay cards as Wolf was talking about I've been interested.

Since I was 13 or so. Progressively started getting deeper into it. Started betting with a local bookie when I got my first job then went online when I got my first credit card.

Going on 15 years now. I have learned a ton since then.

Started betting small back in 1997, just for fun and in the end lost money. Made pretty much every possible mistake and mainly bet parlays.
Took it more serious about 3 yrs ago and for 2yrs now I got to the point, where I won more than I lost, although 2011 got off to a rough start :)

@Dante: At least you were born, when that crazy cat started betting....I wasn't even born (and it's not even remotely close), when BAS started betting. But that guy doesn't like to be called "old", I guess he prefers something like "experienced" @)

my dad took me to the track when i was 12-15....i was calling his bookie before i could drive a car which is a strange feeling when your 14 and 15 and calling up asking for lines then calling back in bets b/c he was busy...

he taught me 1 valuable lesson "if you wanna play, you gotta pay" lost a lot on sports over the years but did well in online poker before the games got pretty much unbeatable

overall cant complain had a lot of fun etc never got in over my head (did have some sleepness nights etc) but the poker winnings helped....32 now and its almost like a hobby dont expect to win if i do great but the pipedream of "i wanna be a professional gambler for a living" is over...

I am an old man of 72, i started running numbers at 12 yrs of age to put food on the table as we lost out father in the war. I quit school so the 2 sisters could could go to school & get their education, i helped mom as much as possible to raise the family. I hustled as much as possible & after gambling since i was young [12 yrs old ] i was able to start booking with about 40-50 customers, most of the time just balancing the books [calling off] & just grinding to make juice. I did this for about 7 years or so & finally was able to start taking larger wagers with about 150-200 customers & went on to better things for my family. I am now semi-retired & taking care of my wife ** she is 57 ] who has many health issues, so what money i made when i was younger is going to medical bills that insurance does not cover for my wife. Well nuff of that but i have been gambling for over 60 years now,gl to all.

Started in '96 betting blindly on football when I was in college. Had nothing more than the Sunday newspaper for lines and actually thought I had chance of winning. 15 years later and I can honestly say that I have it under control - only betting on football. Having a few kids tends to keep you occupied. I'm probably down overall but maybe only a few grand after some monster collapses the last few seasons.

Started when I was 21 and went to a casino for the first time with a friend of mine and his family. I wasn't that interested in slots, so after losing a couple hundred in them I went to a $5 blackjack table and managed to win around $400 dollars or so having never played the game seriously or really knowing anything about it. Well that set me off...I was convinced I could win money at the card tables and started reading anything I could about 21...needless to say the next time at the tables I got my clock cleaned. Lost my whole BR plus some money I borrowed.

After that I got really interested in +EV gambling. I wanted to know why I lost so I took it upon myself to learn as much as possible. It has since went from a hobby to a passion. I still look for +EV in video poker and 21, but I also have fun as well. I still play the slots and other casino games for fun even though I know they are long term losers. Surprisingly I didn't start betting sports till I was 23-24. This forum has helped me a lot - there is quite a bit to learn here if you take the time to digest it.

This year makes 6 years total though - cannot imagine what it would be like to have some the of the same knowledge as you old timers - keep posting information so I can keep learning!
