In keeping with the RX tradition of starting dumb threads, I pose this question to the RX membership...

Personally, I find it relaxing to have a pinch of Copenhagen in my lip as I search for the best lines, or read posts, or IM, or write emails, or whatever.

I also find it enjoyable to have a dip while driving on the highway, watching a ball game on TV, having a shower, or reading a book.

question i always wondered is if a good cigar is safer than a pack of marlboros. . .dont ciggarettes have all those crazy additives. . .i mean sure, a cigar is still going to limit your lung capacity but not with all those crazy additives. tabbaco its self is natural, not man made.

am i on to something here?! or am i just full of crap.

I don't think additives have anything to do with health although they obviously fcuk up the taste.

Cigars are safer because you are not supposed to inhale the smoke into your lungs. Cigars are all about enjoying the taste of the tobacco (smoke never should go further than your mouth) and the process or smoking. You still are at risk for oral cancer with cigars.

thanks for response lakerfan. .heres a response i found on search, but it kind of just sounds like he is stating it this way since the guy smokes cigars to begin with:

Cigars vs. Cigarettes
April 2000
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Q. I smoke Cigars. This is much safer than cigarettes isn't it?

A. No. Cigars actually contain a larger content of carcinogenic tars than a cigarette. Also, although cigar smokers tend to not inhale as much as smokers do, a higher amount of nicotine is absorbed through the oral mucous membranes than via a cigarette. Therefore, there is a significant increase risk of dental disease and head and neck Cancers compared to non-smokers. I strongly advise to quit smoking Cigars and would avoid use of any tobacco containing products for the above reasons. Quitting strategies are similar to those used for quitting cigarettes.

Nothing better than watching or playing a ball game with some Skoal. I know it's disgusting, and my lower gums are taking a beating....but at least it helps me sit through another boring Mets loss

I tried it once, about 20 years ago. I was a construction worker then, got a new man on the job ( an ex AAA ballplayer). He got me to try it. It wasn't for me.

Well, if I ever attend an RX bash in the future, I will know who I can bum a dip from!

Ironlock: What do you mean you don't use spitters? Doesn't the floor get a little messy?

Booze: I attended a AAA game in Vegas this year. Of course, I had a dip while baking in the sun, so I fully understand the pleasure.

Don't spit.

I don't know, after about the 3rd year...I don't really generate the excess saliva...

Actually, I love the taste, the smell, its yummy,...but spitters almost make me gag.

No offense to the shrink but I grew up in Virginia down around Bristol (where they had the Nascar race last weekend) all my buddies growing up chewed tobacco or dipped skoal and everyone single of them today is either toothless or has gum disease. That is one nasty habit.

PS> where the Shrink is and where Im from are two different parts of the world.

I call bullshit. Probably 50% of guys in my class grew up chewing and still chew...I don't know of one that is either toothless or has gum disease. Maybe it's the water Johnny, or lack of toothbrushing.
