Some notes through May 12

KC Royals lead MLB in ERA at 3.45

SF Giants are fifth in MLB at 3.97

Texas Rangers over past 23 games not started by B McCarthy have allowed only 3.4 runs per game, which is a pace that would place them 2nd in MLB. Plus, they are 3rd in MLB for scoring and Josh Hamilton just returned to active lineup

Seattle Mariners are 12th in ERA

Cincinnati Reds are 8th in ERA

KC has a shot winning their division, but I think their lack of consistent run production will keep them out in the end (they would also take a serious blow if Sorias injury is more serious or needs more time to heal). Personally I think Minnesota will have the best shot in the Central because they got a huge offensive boost by the comeback of Mauer and on paper their starting rotation looks really good in that division.
Although Felix+Bedard are a great 1-2 Punch and texas has a great offense, SEA lacks offense (like KC and their bullpen looks worse than the Royals pen) and Texas pitching is inconsistent and below average if someone like Padilla is your #2 guy...only like their closer, Francisco Rodriguez. In the end LAA should still win that divison since they held their ground so far and will get a huge boost once Vlad and their top 2 pitchers (and perhaps even Kelvim Escobar) return.
Reds have a decent shot: I like their lineup( esp. love Votto) and their starters (Harang, Cueto, Volquez) are really good. Their pen so far is also looking good, but it's a really tough division.
Best shot imo is SF: Their rotation is great, with Lincecum at the top and Cain/Zito/Johnson behind. If Johnson keeps struggling, they have a problem, especially since it would wear out their bullpen because Sanchez also doesn't pitch to deep into his games (and besides Wilson and maybe Merklin Valdez their pen sucks imo). But if their offense can score a halfway decent amount of runs, they should finish around 80-84 wins and with the Dodgers missing Man-Ram and lacking pitching (Billingsley and Broxton are great, Kuroda is solid, but Kershaw is too inconsistent and their pen sucks and has to pitch way too much thanks to guys like Kershaw, McDonald, Stults etc), they should be in the division race right til the end.

Voted for none. Cincy has the only real chance IMO. KC 2nd best but in a much tougher division.

none have a realistic shot, all will do well to finish out of the cellar. i do like sf starting pitching but they are not going to beat out the LAD.

Texas Rangers to win the AL West if they can maintain the starting pitching shown by their front four over past four weeks.
