I think this movie "La La Land" and that other movie about the woman about that single mother having a mid-life dancing crisis are two movies of the "Hollywood Echo Chamber". These people literally live in "La La Land". Not to mention the pedophiles at the top of that business... of whom Woody Allen is probably one of them.

it was very cleverly done. it looked like the opening scene was filmed
at the 405, 605, +22 carpool flyovers. if you like or live
in los angeles, they certainly filmed at some very notable spots.
this type of movie certainly isn't for everyone, but it seems
like it was greenlighted for a pretty big budget, especially
considering its potential lack of mass appeal especially with the under 25
market segment. i'm sure the actors involved really enjoyed working
on a such a unique project that challenged them to use talents and
skills that are largely unused in their other movies.

I think some of it is nostalgic. It's a throw-back to the old song&dance movies, the MGM classics from the 1940's-1960's. For those
people that fondly remember those (Fred Astaire, Ginger Rodgers), they will love this movie. And, with Debbie Fischer dying recently,
there's been a resurgence of them showing clips of films from her youth, that were of this type, e.g. "Singing in the Rain..."
It's a fantastic date movie. The only movie I ever saw more than once in a theater is Braveheart. I'm going to see this one again,
the cinematography and direction is amazing.
My only negative critique is that I was hoping for a different ending... I'll leave it at that.

Did they film the 10 million Mexicans in Los Angeles in the movie? I doubt it. They want LA to become Mexico, but they want to film it as though it's the 1950s. Very odd. (And even if it did take place in the 50's.... fuck it. You know they'd never show LA like it is now... an absolute shithole.)
'La La Land' was nominated for a whopping 14 Oscar Nominations! Ties with 'All About Eve' & 'Titanic' as most Oscar nominated film.
